'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

Josh Newburg 247

He's been the LB MVP at the only two camps I've seen reports of him attending, one of which got him an invite to The Opening. He has incredible film. Are him being an inch or two shorter than the ideal size, and not running in the 4.5s (two very overrated attributes for a MLB with incredible instincts, especially the height issue, IMO) the only reasons given for him dropping a star? If so, that's really silly to me. What am I missing?

IMO what you are missing is the "stupid gene" that some of the people that are doing the evaluations for some of these sites apparently have.

Yep......2 MVP's and an invitation to The Opening........ 3 * all day long.

Also the owner of the best quote by a recruit ever. When ask by a reporter about getting paid to play in college. His response to the question. They ain't gotta pay me to hit somebody is priceless. Can't wait to watch him play.

I for one hope he gets his fourth star at The Opening. Also hope this make him play with a chip on his shoulder his senior season

Word is it was a big hit.

He is also committed to us.... that isn't helping his ranking either.

Where has he dropped? He's a 4* on 247 and Rivals. Those are the only two halfway credible sites.

That's true, they do have the best rankings, IMO. I believe he's slipped a little on both of those sites still, and I thought Scout and ESPN also used to have him as a 4*. He's also a 3* in the composite. I just think he's really underrated. Doesn't really matter, I'm thrilled to have him in Orange, I just like to see our guys get their due.

I think a lot of times it comes down to can the services find ANYTHING wrong with a UT commitment. IF they can, then they set up well to be dropped. "His speed is not elite". "He does not cut well out of his breaks". "His hips are a bit still". All reasons they can give for a UT commit to not get the "bama type bump".

When you have a kid like Kahlil McKenzie IMO it just makes the services mad. They know he is headed to UT, but if they don't rank him a 5* they look stupid. It's a no win in their eyes. :p

I can't wait to have this badass at UT next year. Cherry is probably my 2nd favorite defensive Vol commit behind McKenzie :)
