The more I read about this, the more bizarre it gets. Cecil was practicing as the No. 2 MLB immediately after stepping on campus. He would have been no worse than the No. 3 this fall. How pissed could he really have been over a number?

No. 1 is a 5* freshman I think that committed before him. Maybe his dad knew he'd be 2nd fiddle all 4 years?

I would certainly not mind taking Cherry's talent, but the mentality to reportedly quit this early, over a jersey number, or anything, really, is not what I'm looking for in a LB

The one time vol commit Cecil Cherry has already quit at Texas. Said he wants to go home. Apparently walked out of the horns first practice in pads.

Recruiting is a tough process. For some, adapting to college life is even harder. I take no pleasure in watching a young man struggle and it does not matter what school. I wish him the best and hope he makes good decisions for himself.

Cherry, a three-star recruit from Frostproof, Florida, quit the team after three days of participating in fall practice, his father, Winston Cherry, confirmed to ESPN.com.

"It's just not the right fit for him," Winston Cherry said. "Once he gets his [release] papers, we'll find him a home with someone who needs him. He needs to be somewhere where he's needed real bad."
