'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

Let's be real, the kid wins regardless either school is a great choice. Im not going to pretend I didn't want him, but in light of his recent actions I'm ok with upgrading to Kirkland. Even when we lose, we win.

I just got off the phone with my son and he was telling me that Cecil was getting tweets from Vol fans hoping he breaks every bone in his body at Texas. I don't know if these were trolls or just immature Vol fans who are hiding under a twitter handle. I wish they could man up and say something like this to Cecil's face. These brats are not fans but either trolls or puss..s. Cecil was one of our Legacy commits and I wish him well for whatever he decides for his future. Cecil was my favorite recruit for this cycle.

I don't tweet at recruits nor do I not disagree with you but if he based his decision on twitter then he needs more years of high school to mature before playing college football. He was all about some attention from vol fans before taking his visit he gets the good and the bad from twitter and sounds like he can't take the bad

Like I said before I don't tweet to recruits but it's something there gonna have to get used to playing college ball in this day in age I would of hated to see Jon Crompton play for tennessee in this Era with social media it's just part of it... it's not a good thing but it's something these high school coaches should be warning these kids before logging onto to twitter wanting followers from schools fan bases

Cecil has been 100% Vol forever. I certainly hope CBJ didn't tell him to look somewhere else. If CBJ didn't tell him to look elsewhere, the kid has some serious integrity issues.

recruiting is a business, Cecil shouldn't have bit the hand that was going to feed him for the next 4 years.
We don't know that he bit anyone's hand. For someone to have been so jacked up to be a Vol, suddenly have a 100 change of heart...that sounds like the staff asked him to look around. I hate it, but sometimes, as a coach you got a make a chitty choice...take someone you have rated higher on your board, or keep the bird in hand.

They could have gotten a silent from Kirkland, and decided he gives them all the traits and dimensions they were looking for, in a MLB. They'd like to have both, any other year...but we don't have the numbers to allow it. I don't have any bitter feelings towards him. It is what it is.

Kirkland called our staff a month ago to see if he could visit and to inquire about what our numbers situation was like. Our staff told him as badly as we wanted him, we were full and did not think we had any room left for him.

This lends credence to the rumor that the staff was happy with Cherry a month ago. When Cherry decided to take a visit to Texas, our staff was not happy and they proceeded to call Kirkland's family back and set up a visit for this weekend.

Obviously we all liked Cherry and he is a good prospect and he has been a commit for a very long time. I would not have guessed that he would be one of the guys that was having second thoughts. Texas and Charlie Strong were able to convince Cecil to take a look, and their depth chart provides a better chance for Cherry. I think Cecil was exploring options and our staff did not feel comfortable with him suddenly looking around, so they went ahead and reopened the MLB spot for Kirkland. If you are still going to look, we are going to look is the right strategy in recruiting. Recruiting is always fluid and you always need to have several contingency plans.

:good!:

I could see him ending up in Gainesville considering they're going to hire a new coach and their class is awful. Closer to home and still in the SEC.

Jmo of course

Long, but good post. I agree except for the depth charts. We have a huge need at MLB. They need them as well, but ours is wide open now that AJ is gone.

Too short to rush the passer? What exactly does that even mean?

This had me scratching my head too.

Al Wilson and Cecil Cherry are the same height. Never seem to bother Al. Of course Al Wilson is likely much faster than Cecil cherry at this stage. Running back speed versus fullback speed essentially.

I hope for Mr. Cherry's sake that this does not turn out to be like Arkansas for Otha Peters. :salute:

Most pass rushers (DE's, OLB's in 3-4, etc.) Are tall and lengthy. so even if they don't get to the QB they are taught to get their hands up to bat down the throw.

AJ has improved his speed but he still was rarely a cover guy in 3rd and long situations.

I would like to get Cherry, I think he could be a diamond in the rough, and he reminds me of AJ pre scandal. But he's a lacking in some key area's to play LB in a 4-2-5 defense. Which is basically our base D due to the number of WRs used in most offenses.

I think he would earn his keep against Alabama, Georgia, and any other team that runs mostly between the tackles though.

What exactly does this mean?

He could bring alot if passion and leadership to the team. On and off the field. Like AJ did before being accused of rape. That's a downer

They are saying on twitter that Cecil has flipped to Texas. Good luck! But you are a dumbazz for thinking that TN fans were trolling you on twitter. It was Texas fans.

I'm sure it was both. Don't forget our fans threatening Randy Sanders and Jonathon Crompton.

At some point those references will be as topical as a Johnny Majors war story...10 years the cutoff point? Wipe the slate clean in 2016!
