'15 JUCO RB Alvin Kamara (UT commit 6/21/14)

I think Arnett was going to seek a hardship waiver because Dooley wouldn't release him to MSU. Then, when Dooley decided to release him, he was cleared to play immediately without the waiver. Pretty sure that's correct, which means, if Saban releases him, then he can go to any D1 school except in the SEC (unless Saban puts a restriction on other schools, like FSU for example).

Thanks for the response! I actually didn't know that.

That's not what I am saying. I am pretty sure Arnett did not have to seek a hardship waiver because of his dad's sickness, because Dooley ended up releasing him without restriction to Michigan State. I believe the same thing would happen with AK… If Saban releases him without restriction to anywhere outside of the SEC, then he will not have to sit out a year. And I may be completely wrong on this… I am sure someone will correct me that knows better.

It's my understanding they have to sit out a year even with a release. Arnett did have an ill father and used that as a reason for his hardship waiver that was consequently granted by the AA. Picket, RB transfer from MD, tried the same thing and was denied by the AA. I am no expert though but that's my understanding of the rules.

This is something I found. Not sure if it clarifies anything.

Q: If I transfer to another four-year institution, will I immediately be eligible? The general rule for all student-athletes transferring from one four-year institution to another four-year institution is that they must spend one academic year in residence at the school to which they transfer before they may be eligible for competition. However, you may be eligible immediately upon transfer if you meet one of several transfer exceptions. [Note: During a student-athlete's initial year of collegiate enrollment, he or she only may use a transfer exception if they have been certified by the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse as a qualifier.] The most common transfer exception is the One-Time Transfer Exception. To be eligible to use this exception: a. A student-athlete must be transferring to another four-year institution to participate in sports other than Division I basketball, Division I men's ice hockey and Division I football (unless the student-athlete is transferring from Division IA to Division I-AA); b. The student-athlete's first transfer from one four-year college to another four-year college; c. The student-athlete must have been eligible academically had he or she remained at their previous institution; d. The student-athlete must obtain a written release from the current institution stating that they have no objection to the student-athlete's use of the exception. [Note: Student-athletes transferring from an NCAA Division III institution using this exception may not receive athletically related financial aid during their first academic year in residence on transfer.

You might be right. I cannot remember if Arnett filed for the hardship waiver or not.

I hope he goes to Juco. I think he seems like the type that needs to be on the field and playing some to keep him better off.

Hopefully these kids are beginning to figure out that when a team has 6 RBs and three others within your class, that you may want to look around. I know they believe they can compete but odds are against them. Saban will stockpile kids who do not fit in his offensive scheme just to keep from other teams, e.g. Corey Grant, Dee Hart, AK.

Alabama RB Alvin Kamara confirms transfer, offers a little background on decision | AL.com

He can only blame himself. Everybody in the world not associated with bama warned him this would happen. It's one thing to try and show your not scared of competiton but its another to make a terrible business decision. You have to weigh risk no matter how confident you are in yourself and choose the best option when you can pick and choose where you want to go. Being in a class of 4 RBs is going to always end up in 1-2 transfers which leads to sitting out a year while watching your boys play ball.

The only positions that a kid should consider with 3-4 plus commits is WR, oline or at any defensive position.

Ah ok. I don't blame the guy at all for wanting to transfer, just wish he would have thought it out more before going to bama bc I think we may have got him (more likely would have been a dawg but we would've had a better shot). I think everyone but him saw this as a stong possibility from the time he signed. Oh well live and learn.

What was he thinking anyway? I feel like he isn't that smart because Alabama had 3 backs already committed in that class before he decided to commit and not to mention Yeldon and Drake were already there. Should have either came here or UGA.

Some people like to assume the kid is an issue. Yes he got in trouble a few times it seems over last part of the season but I do not think it has anything to do with him transferring. Coming into fall camp the kid looked like he would see the field as a true freshman. Some forget he hurt his knee in August which required surgery. I think the time missed with Drake playing like he did and with Henry making a move as well cost AK seeing the field not behavior.

The reason for so many of the UA fans that are upset with him derives from an issue in December. UA had a huge weekend for recruits and AK said some negative things to the recruits. Not to the point some UA fans made out to be but more regarding his displeasure with his freshman season. Some attribute Z Whitley flipping to UCLA because of Kamara, but those are the idiots in my opinion. ZW was already high on UCLA especially with his best friend committed there. Not to mention our sites said watch for him as someone flipping back in November to UCLA. But like every fan base there are some that have to blame someone when sometimes one school is not the right choice.

In regards to his transfer he was released but as mentioned not to any SEC school. It looks like he finish the spring semester at UA before transferring out. The rule is he has to sit out one year wherever he goes but if he leaves now before completing one year in residence he would have to sit out 2 years before playing. Wherever he ends up after sitting out a year will still have 3 to play since he redshirt this year. I think Clemson or Okie State may be the schools to watch for.

He will be a big time pickup for whatever program he ends up at. Good luck to the kid.

I gave him my opinion, amd he listened to what my thoughts and suggestions would be if this were my son....

as he is like my own ; 0)

It's difficult enough being a parent of one child in a major Division 1 program with all the ups and downs. It is really difficult when you have multiple young men who you care for. They are family, and you want the best for them and to see them happy. Hopefully, he can find the right place and be successful.
