Exactly the only reason the incoming standards are higher now is because of the number of people applying to schools. It is just a way to reduce the number of applications they receive they do not want to filter through. I work for a university and I continue to hear how the quality of the students today have gone backwards with the new higher standards. The problem today starts with standardized testing that HS spend some much time prepping students to beat and receive higher scores. I never spent the time on SAT practicing as they do today and still my scores are higher than most today. Not to mention the correlation with the amount of money schools receive based on test scores.
Studies have shown students spend less time on subject matter now then before because time spent learning how to be a test.
Also if a degree today was so much more valuable than why are so many coming out can not find a job or take it from someone who has been there for 10 plus years.
Actually, the scores are important because someone from nowhere high school can get a 4.0 whereas someone from a prep school or a more competitive school can have a 3.5, yet be much smarter. At least that's the assumption, therefore, the colleges wanting to give the kid from a nowhere school a shot, ask that he takes standardized tests. Students spend less on subject matter because most of the kids don't need to spend time due to no student left behind and such. The incoming standards are higher because more kids want to go to college, and therefore, is becoming more competitive, not to filter out.
I think you are having trouble distinguishing cause from correlation. But, what do I know?
lol, not really angry at all. just having fun watching y'all make these terrible arguments and assumptions without any evidence.
Apparently not much because I know for a fact it is used for a filter. No different with people coming out with BS or BA degrees. I know companies that I still consult with could care less what their GPA or class rank in college. They receive over 1000 applications for an entry level job and they 1st filter out people who do not have a masters without looking at anything else.
Also like the backtracking. Yes more students are applying but the difference you fail to understand is the competition to get in is based on quantity as the driver not quality. But what do I know since I have worked with a major university and their admissions office.
I know because I was an officer of the chancellor's honors program until this year.

LOL. I am the tool. You are losing your cool against a kid half your age on the internet. Again, I don't think you understand how to use the word "tool." No offense, but I highly doubt that your daughter got anywhere close to a 4.0 or a 30. Those numbers are good enough to get kids into the honors college with a lot of money. I know because I just graduated from UT. Even most of the kids in the honors college do not have a 30 or are barely above it. I know because I was an officer of the chancellor's honors program until this year.
You mean like yours that your degree holds more value without any evidence. Or that you assume because schools are requiring higher standards means college is harder now. Where is your evidence. Oh I forgot in your mind you seem to think you are right. But everything you have posted has only been your assumption without any data to support your opinion.
Curious what is your degree and what is your occupation if you do not mind me asking.
