Right behind Tennessee is Alabama where Nick Saban and defensive line coach Bo Davis have left strong impressions after a recent visit.
"It's the relationship factor with coach Davis and coach Saban. Last week I got a chance to get down there and talk some ball with," Jones said. "I got to sit down with the coaches and talk academics and about where I would fit in. Pretty much, talking to the whole coaching staff was good."
Also aiding the Tide is the fact that former EMCC teammates Jarran Reed and DJ Pettway are now at Alabama.
"They are looking out for me. They want me to go somewhere that I will be comfortable but of course in the back of their mind they want me to go and play at Alabama," Jones said.
Clemson and South Carolina wrap up Jones' top four and playing back in his home state is something Jones thinks about often.
"They are both instate and that means a lot," Jones said. "That would mean my family and friends would be able to come and see me play, with Clemson being five or 10 minutes from the house and South Carolina about an hour."
Southern Cal is on the list and Jones has a visit set up to see the Trojans in two weeks to learn more about the West Coast program.
Jones' plan continues to make a late fall decision after taking all five official visits. Right now Jones said he knows of three official visit destinations, Florida State, Auburn and Tennessee.
"Seeing how I just now made my top 10 I'm definitely making a late decision," Jones said. "I went through it a little bit in high school, but I really understand it now. It's a business decision. It's not playtime. I'm going to these places to see how I would fit in."
