'15 IN LB Darrin Kirkland Jr (UT Commit 12/15/14)

Per Barton Simmons, Kirkland is an "upgrade" over Cherry:

"I think Cecil Cherry was a good player, but he is a purely in-the-box, first-down, second-down type of linebacker," Simmons said. "He's a thumper, but he's not a guy who's going to give you a lot of versatility in coverage. I think Darrin Kirkland is a kid who does give you that versatility. He's an athletic guy. I think that was a really nice pickup there by the Vols."

I think most of us thought this anyway, but a little backup never hurts.

He's definitely more athletic and rated considerably higher on both 247 and Rivals. I was disappointed they missed on him the first time around as I think he moves well enough to where he could have even played OLB in college. Things worked out nicely for TN here.

+1. Kirkland won't be a liability in any situation or on any down IMO. I'm ecstatic we got a second chance with him. Kirkland and Smith are a terrific haul at LB this year. The addition of Sapp would just be gravy.

What do you mean?

May be referring to this:

"As a part of its April meeting, Division I Legislative Council members decided that schools may continue to recruit with relaxed recruiting rules prospects who sign financial aid agreements for mid-year enrollment. But if that prospect does not enroll at the school, the school will be considered in violation of recruiting rules."
