'15 IN LB Darrin Kirkland Jr (UT Commit 12/15/14)

There are about seven numbers retired, all listed on UT Sports site with date of their retirement

"... but players can continue to wear the number under the school's new policy for this honor.

Tennessee is allowing current and future players to wear retired numbers of anyone who gets his jersey retired from this point on. Majors is the first honoree to whom this policy applies. Sophomore linebacker A.J. Johnson currently wears No. 45 for Tennessee.

Tennessee's previous seven retired jerseys will remain out of circulation unless an honoree allows his number to be worn by someone else. If the honoree has died, his family would need to grant permission..."

Thanks for the clarification. I cant think of anyone else I would want to have 45 other than JRM.

Trivia:
Last to wear 16 and 91 and 92?

16: Rick Clausen had to change # mid season

91: Robert Ayers?

92: Justin Harrell?

Chances the family of Reggie White lets Khalil or Jalen McKenzie wear the '92'?

With Jalen likely a OT it would be up to Kahlil to rep 92. I'm sure since the families are so close that would be the only family with a boy that could get that number. Would be awesome but Kahlil might want to rep his own legacy.

I would love to see Khalil McKenzie dominate in #92

It'd be a nod to Vol history, showing Kahlil as a student of the game, and it would be a real treat to the fans seeing someone with the number probably for the last time. I'd love to see it.

Best LB we've brought in since AJ.... And yes that includes Bates. I think DK has tremendous upside. Reads and reacts well, which is #1 priority for an inside backer.

Good tackler and I like his sideline to sideline speed. He brings a lot to the table. In Jancek's defense, AJ has a lot of responsibilities. I think DK can handle it and show out in this defense.

Go to UT Sports website. Number 45 was retired in a ceremony in 2012 just like Peytons number 16 was retired in 2005. Majors can release it to JRM if he wants to just like he let AJ continue to wear it
I believe AJ already had the number before they retired it. He got to finish out his career then no more 45. JMO:hi: Just seen previous Page.

It's huge that he's moved in and is an official EE tomorrow. No looking over our shoulder towards UM and Prince Harbaugh....Kirkland is a done deal. This kid is special and he's going to get to show his stuff very early.

He's faster than AJ and will make up for his mental errors, misalignment much quicker than AJ ever was able to. AJ became great this year because he anticipated extremely well and didn't hesitate when he chose his gap, at least for the first half of the season.
