Bump just because this may have gotten lost in the shuffle of Tux

From an AU mod

Can't wait to hear Leb's thoughts on Gibson potentially being a silent commit and already having his spot locked up. (Like it was in jeopardy in the first place :eek:lol:)

Big news. I wonder where he got the info.

I'll play along. "TG is a UT silent" says the random AU board.

With Bruce taking the 2nd WR spot, I'd guess UT would not add a 2nd RB(No Kamara), and TG would be the TE for 2015. Hope he can put on 25-30LBS quickly. Maybe we see him competing as a blocker on the end of the line. Of course, I would not count on it. :p

Football aside, do you sincerely not like TG? I understand you do not think we should have 3 QBs numbers wise, and you are not sold on his throwing ability, but you also have taken shots at him as a person and I dont really get that.

Edit: Maybe you were kidding. I'm trying to do this online college algebra course and at least try to converse with Tux. Perhaps my jimmies are admittedly a bit rustled.

Actually, it was an AU mod.

As for the rest of your post, I'm glad you've still got your sense of humor. :hi:

Of course not. Kind of why I like the 2 QBs we have committed and would like to see "a 3rd QB spot" used at a position of need. Star gazing can get you in trouble in recruiting. Lane Kitten might be able to speak on that just a lil bit if you ask him.

Nick Saban would tell Kiffin to STFU and keep bringing in the stars.

I like to see certain traits in a young QB. I feel that Jennings and Dormady look to have them. I don't know TG as a person, all I can do is base my opinion on what I read and see online. With what I have seen, I'd pass.

No. You can not run any "other running play" with either blocking scheme. This concept runs counter to how plays may be named in video games you have played in the past.

The blocking scheme dictates the running plays that you can use. Zone blocking typically dictates that the running plays used are either outside zone or inside zone/one cut running plays. You will not see teams run a traditional off-tackle or a dive from a zone block scheme. It's simply not how the scheme works.

Gus Malzahn's read option, to which Tux is referring, uses a traditional power blocking scheme. He runs a power running game out of a spread offense. It's really what makes what he's doing so different and difficult to defend.

I still do not agree with everything Tux has said concerning zone-reads and the read option. Typically they are one and the same. However, he did mention Malzahn previously and it was worth pointing out that Malzahn's read option is significantly different.

I described a stretch play in the zone blocking scheme. It was actually the bread and butter of the packers zone running for years. The Broncos often run dive under a zone blocking scheme. Hell, I see Alabama run both every year. Blocking scheme comes with the philosophy of the offense, not a play by play basis. Offensive lines would really struggle if they had to learn two blocking philosophies with two different techniques.

I'm happy to talk about this. I've been through both schemes during my high school philosophy. The initial step is very different, in zone, its a six inch diagonal step opposed to a drive step in a man scheme. The next thing is lineman finds a partner to double team which is called before the play then goes to linebacker. The man scheme, you find the closest guy or go right to linebacker without a double team.

Any run play can be ran with either scheme.

I don't like him as a QB in UT's offense. That is JMO.

#1 concern anyone should have with TG IMO is his obvious avoiding to compete as a QB following his HS season. It's not been a 1 time thing. It's been numerous times. I honestly think he feels his QB stock was as high as it could be and anytime he did compete, it took a hit. IMO he is hoping to lay low and get a great school to take him as a QB. Maybe he develops and maybe he doesn't. He looks to be avoiding camps where he actually has to throw. Ignoring that IMO is a mistake. Kid is a great athlete. IMO he is a massive project at QB.

How he can look at Jennings and Gibsons film and say JJ is better is baffling. I am excited that JJ is a Vol but to say his QB film is better than TG is completely insane.

Same here. I like JJ and I'm super pumped he's a Vol but TG's film is nothing short of spectacular, especially when you consider it's against South Florida 5A teams.

I did not say JJ's film was better. I like that JJ is willing to compete now. That says a lot IMO. I have said numerous times I see JJ and TG as similar QBs on film. JJ is working to get better. He is taking advantage of opportunities to get better. TG is taking a lot of trips. It is what it is.

Some very interesting information directly from Auburn's Rivals.com administrator:

***Auburn's 2015 QB situation 101:

Before I head out on the road to the 8-1-3 for the IMG National 7v7 AND a little vacation at home, I wanted to give y'all the rundown on what is going down on the quarterback front:

It looks like Rivals100 ATH Torrance Gibson is feeling the pressure. I thought after Tennessee picked up their SECOND quarterback prospect, he would surely give Auburn a much harder look. Instead, he named the Vols his outright leader by a "large margin." He knows Auburn is taking a hard look around. He knows Tennessee has two potential QB prospects committed. Do I think he would be fantastic in the HUNH? Yes. Do I think he has to start making some decisions soon? Yes.
Rivals250 Deondre Francois was absolutely phenomenal at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge. He can spin it on the run, in the pocket...you name it. He is a true quarterback. Having him visit Auburn for two days was big time for this staff. While on his trip, he not only cut his list down to three, but he canceled visits to Tennessee AND Ohio State. He is down to Oregon, FSU and Auburn. He has not visited the Ducks so I don't see them being much of a factor. He has been considered a Florida State lean for awhile, BUT...
Four-star Kai Locksley is an interesting prospect. He has a top six that Auburn and FSU are both in, BUT the Tigers have definitely cooled off on his recruitment. Florida State has not. Francois is FSU's No. 1 guy, but they would take Locksley. Right now, Auburn would not.
Four-star Lamar Jackson is set to visit Auburn sometime soon. They need to get him on campus before the can evaluate where to go from there. Now, Francois is set to announce at the end of July. I fully expect Jackson to make a trip to the Plains before that.

My thoughts? I think Gibson misses his opportunity at Auburn. I think Francois liked Auburn a lot more than he initially thought, and his visit made them a serious threat to FSU. I think Jackson could be a solid option, but he has to get on campus before a call is made. I really like Locksley as a player, but Auburn is satisfied with how Queen has come along. They don't have to take a quarterback in this class.

P.S. - Both Gibson and Francois are scheduled to compete in the IMG National 7v7. From what I've heard, Gibson will play WR and Francois will play QB. I'm hoping to get a better feel from the both of them this weekend.

I feel like he needs a pass on not coming to the Gruden camp. Not everyone can just find a ride from someone for a 15 hour drive there, stay a couple of days then come back. He's going to The Opening, so he will be competing there. Even so, would you not agree that looking at someone's tape, where TG had shown the ability to make great passes, holds much more weight that showing up to a camp?

I guess my football knowledge just isn't up there with some of you guys....But even with Jennings and Dormady committed, I just can't see the downside in adding a 5* DT QB to the roster.

I don't see an a great QB in his tape at all. I see an athlete playing QB. It's not the same thing and IMO is not what UT needs right now.

The Orlando Elite 11 event he was scheduled to be at and compete at QB with Lawson, Francois, and others would have been a good opportunity to show his stuff. He did not show. Orlando is a drive as well I suppose.

I suppose you could give him a pass on not getting to UTs camp. It is odd he literally showed up just as the camp/throwing ended.

The same things a lot of others have seen. I'm just not one to ignore the signs in favor of the *'s. It's been discussed in depth many times. The "issues" are all out there.

you keep repeating yourself but that is it. what have you seen ? he needs work on throwing but so does your boy QD.
