I thought his RS got burnt when he had to go into the Bama game?

Im guessing your a little lost on what a redshirt is. A redshirt isnt "given" until the season is over. When a redshirt gets "burned" it just means that the player is no longer eligible to take a redshirt.

Hope that clears it up a bit

So you still think either Dobbs or Ferg is going to start this season?

There is no chance either of them start ahead of Worley. #2 is Dobbs.

Sorry for the confusion. I have long said I felt Worley would start this year. The "I doubt that would happen" would be either of the 2 on campus deciding to transfer. I actually think the ideal situation is Worley starts, Fergs is #2 and Dobbs RS's. Going into 2015 both then have 3 years to play.

#2 is still up for grabs.

Dobbs had a rough spring other than the O&W game. Fumbling problems and inconsistency issues.

Riley had the better overall spring but had a bad showing at the O&W game.

The coaches will look at the entire body of work and not just the O&W game.

I am of the minority that thinks Dobbs will redshirt. I think Worley starts and Ferguson gets garbage time reps. Thatll give Dobbs an extra year of eligibility. Thatll build future depth. Worley will be gone after this season and Peterman will likely transfer out after the season. Thatll leave Dobbs, Ferguson and the incoming freshmen

Yea I can't really see Butch redshirting Dobbs. If he plays cleanup against USU, Ark State, Chatt, and KY, then he's played in almost just as many games as Worley. That's a lot of game experience with still having his Junior and Senior years ahead of him. Dobbs really could end up being our guy if our Oline can give him any sort of protection. I have no loyalty to either QB, so take this as unbiased as possible.

But if he is the guy of the future, why would we want to waste a year of eligibility for some garbage time snaps? You can give them to Ferguson so you have some experienced depth the next season. Say Dobbs starts in 2015 and gets hurt, that would leave us with a few QBS.. none of which would have experience

And this is exactly why I hope Dobbs gets a RS this year. Both he and Riley would have experience and heading into 2015 both would have 3 yrs of eligibility remaining.

I think you want to give Dobbs as much practice with Malone, North, Hurd, Pig, etc.. as possible. This year could be rocky with the Oline, but we'll be way ahead of the rest of the East in 2015 if we work through those growing pains. I think Worley is the best QB to start 2014, but I don't think Dobbs is too far behind him. I really have no idea what Ferg is capable of (and I don't think anyone else does either), but I think if we stick with Dobbs and let him gel with all the talent around him, we'll get a solid 2015 and 2016 out of him, while hopefully landing a top QB recruit by 2015.

It seems as if we've had a lot of "qb competitions" over the last 10 years, and I think it's time we stick with one guy. The UGA's, USC's, and Bama's have had 3 and 4 year starters back to back to back and that's ultimately why they've been way ahead of us as a whole.

Edit: the reason I'm hesitant to RS Dobbs is because if we play Ferg behind our inexperienced Oline and have the same kind of results as 2013, we'll go into 2015 with all the same question marks as 2014. I'd prefer to just gamble on Dobbs and pray like hell that he's the man!

If Dobbs is #2 and goes in during garbage time, he wont be playing with those guys... he will be with the 2nd team Oline and WRs.

If Dobbs is #2 and doesnt redshirt, that means we only have a 2 year starter and then start all over again.

Well if we really wanted to look ahead to the future, I say you'd have to take Worley completely out of the picture and start Dobbs/Ferg all season. But that's not going to happen. I just don't want to start preseason 2015 with another QB battle, because that hasn't been the case at UGA, USC, or Bama and they've been spanking us. I say designate a starter, and let's go.

Dobbs was a disaster last year. Worley won us a huge game against a top 10 team.

If you are going to do that then start Ferg. I would rather go with potential rather than what Dobbs has shown so far.

What exactly had Ferg shown? Nice passes vs air in practice videos?

I'm not on either side, I just want whoever gets it to win games

And that's my point. Can't really afford to look TOO far into the future and pass up what could be today! Worley is going to win us some games this year and hopefully show some QB recruits what could be if they choose the T. We'll do fine this year with Worley...beyond that...just pray.

Worley got bailed out by North because that pass would be picked most of the time. I will cringe if he is no better.

The WRs dropped quite a few passes from Worley. I am not talking about really tough catches. I mean some great throws that should have easily been caught but were dropped. Your attempt to blame and denigrate Worley is falling flat.

You don't remember the worm bruisers from last year. I've never seen such a bad QB.

To be fair, there were several dropped passes against USCjr. last year that should have been caught. One drop that I immediately think back on involved either Blanc or Smith that would have been for a huge gain and put us at the goal-line.

However, I'll cringe as well if Worley has not improved
