I was there too, and I agree. I don't think the 98 Florida game will ever be topped, for the following reasons:

First, there were over 107,000 fans - 5,000 more than our current stadium capacity. Second, the outcome couldn't have been more satisfying and cathartic for Vol fans coming after so many catastrophic Florida meltdowns during the mid-90s (although a win over a Kiffen-coached Alabama team this year might come close). Third, Neyland Stadium didn't have to resort to pre-recorded music or other Jumbotron gimmicks to keep everyone's attention between breaks. Finally, 1998 was before people started doing that effiminate "WOOOO" during the chorus to Rocky Top.

Thanks for the YouTube link! I just watched it. That brought back memories of a night at Neyland Stadium that I will forever remember! I hope these new recruits understand what they can help bring back to a fan base that is longing for those Great Tennessee Football Memories to return! I think we now have the coach. The Florida game in 98 is easily the most 'live' game I've ever been to. Ever. Any stadium, any sport. When the Florida kicker missed the field goal, the sound was deafening and Neyland shook so much it was hard to focus your vision. Un-be-lievable.

Was sitting under the 'V' (where the jumbotron is now) right in line with the left upright of the goal post. That was a very long second watching the ball hook left...

Then the goal posts came down and floated around the field on the 50k people down there. Looked like leaves in a pond. Wow. What a night...

I agree, it is pretty sickening that we can't beat them even with them being down. The only thing that they have going for them when they play us is a stout defense. When you look at the past couple of year though we have beat the hell out of a lot of teams when they play us. Teams like UGA, Mizzu, and FL in years past. I know it's not much to hang your hat on but we have played some close games that could have gone our way.
