Not likely. The 2001 Miami Hurricanes would have destroyed us regardless of the QB. FSU in 1999 were a very good team that would have been hard to beat.

Don't know if I agree with Miami destroying us. Tennessee had a championship caliber team. As usual, our problem at the time came down to Fulmer banking on 'outathleting' teams. When he had to do real coaching, he failed miserably. Truth is had Fulmer been smart enough to realize LSU was putting 9 in the box to stop Travis Stevens, we win the SEC Championship going away and head to the Rose Bowl. Keep in mind FSU and Miami have always struggled with SEC teams in bowl games even during their heydays. Fulmer's crappy coaching killed us from having a chance to grab another trophy that year.

Just curious, how do you think we could better use these threads for quarterbacks, if not discussing their strengths, weaknesses, and our projections of their future success?

You answered your own question there.

My point was that between Gentry and Gibson, it has turned into a Twilight Team Edward vs. Team Whatever-the-other-guy's-name-was. Just browse through the thread long enough and you see words like "thug", "egotistical", "we don't need this guy because he won't work here". Well I guess Butch just accidentally offered this kid a scholarship. Then we have a guy with a Fathead of a third string NFL quarterback on his living room wall...

On topic: I really like what Gibson has to offer and he truly is an elite athlete. However, when it comes to passing, the foundation of the QB position, I think he is lacking. Gentry, in my opinion, would require less work than Gibson to bring the passing game up to SEC powerhouse standards. I think either one would be phenomenal for our offense though.

The 2001 Miami team was the most talented team in CFB history. Anyone trying to "out-athlete" them would have been beaten by 4+ TD's. They won their final 2 regular season home games against Top 15 teams by a score of 124-7.

Dorsey, Najeh Davenport, Clinton Portis, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow, Andre Johnson, Daryl Jones, Frank Gore, and Willis McGahee made up their offensive skill unit. Not to mention a pair of 1st team all american OT's.

Ed Reed, Jonathan Vilma, Phillip Buchanon, and Jerome McDougle led the defense.

If their coach wasn't Coker, they would have been the unanimous CFB GOAT.

Anyways back to Gibson. I think he's a tremendous athlete but in my opinion, I still believe he would make a better receiver than a quarterback. He's got good size with good speed and he would cause a lot of mismatches in the backfield. After watching his film, his passing wasn't that impressive and apparently it wasn't that impressive in camps either. Not saying he wouldn't be a good quarterback on the college level but I believe he would be a "better" fit as a receiver. If I had to choose between Gentry or Gibson, I would have to go with Gentry. He's got all the traits you need in a quarterback and he would be a much better fit in Butch Jone's offense. JMO

Its hard for me to pick. I like Gentrys arm. I like Gibson's combination of arm talent and athleticism and completion level in the area. I think we would be fine with either. I just hope we get one of the two.

That's the biggest downside I see with Gentry, as much as I like him. Just by watching his highlight videos, you can tell how poor his competition was. I know he's a big kid, but he looks like Goliath compared to his opponents' defenses. Pretty sure a little 5'10" linebacker is going to have trouble taking down a guy that has 9 inches and 75 lbs on him.

Thank you for de-sheeping that one

Hey look, the guy who called Manziel "white chocolate", because only black qb should be able to run like that.

Thanks for showing up. Now please continue with your stupidity about how "everyone else is racist."

I have never even brought up Johnny M. Period. I have no idea what you are talking about.

I have never said everyone is racist either. I do think some of the ones that come in TG' s thread just to cry how Gentry is our qb, or how overrated and wrong for the team he is do show bias towards Black qbs. Some of the main ones bashing TG have said borderline racist things in other threads. I don't think it is a coincidence.

So what are the realistic chances of landing this guy anyway? My guess it's about 75%.

It's ridiculous how stacked they were at RB. When Frank Gore is your 4th string RB you're doing alright.

You took it upon yourself to make our TG comments racist. I made my determination by looking at the film and stats.
Byron Leftwich was one of my favorite QBs ever because he played with his leg snapped. He's darker than the night. He was also extremely slow and threw far.

I would like to see Gibson throw more and run less. Otherwise, Auburn would be the only place he wouldn't sit for a long time.
