In all fairness, the only WRs potential QB recruits really saw ball out last year were Pig (status uncertain for this year) and true freshman Marquez North. They probably haven't seen Malone or Pearson besides maybe a mention on Sportscenter, despite the fact that adding those two essentially doubled our amount of effective receiving threats.

+ 1 When these QB recruits see Malone, Pearson, North, Croom and Pig ripping it up this year I bet a lot of their eyes light up. The thought of throwing the ball to that talented a group of wrs will make a lot of them think of Tennessee when signing day comes a long.

It may be JMO, but I can tell you that for me........come NSD, I won't give two sh**s about a QB thinking of UT. I personally have an issue with a QB wanting to wait til the end of their season to commit. We need one (another one, sorry Mr. Jennings), at the latest, by the end of summer.

Doesn't sound like Auburn is too confident. From AU Rivals -

The Rivals100 ATH is taking a trip to Tennessee this weekend. After his Auburn visit, Gibson said that the Tigers had a slight edge, but the two teams were 1A and 1B (which I find odd).

The scenario can play out THREE ways in my eyes: After the visit he says that Auburn still has the edge OR he puts the two back at even OR Tennessee now claims the top spot.

The first one is ideal, but I think the staff would be happy if they went back to even. I do not believe Gibson will commit before taking official visits in the fall, and if he does, then the official visits are do or die if he decides to take them.

Found something interesting in the Deondre Francois thread today. According to Francois, "[Butch Jones] thinks that I'm the best quarterback for the program in the 2015 class."

This, of course, seems to contradict everything Gibson has said about his conversations with UT coaches, which indicate that he's the staff's top target at QB.

I still think Gibson is the top QB target because he clearly has the highest ceiling of any 2015 QB and we offered him about a year ago. By contrast, we only offered Francois in February of this year (and, for the record, Zach Gentry in Dec. 2013). I will concede, however, that others may have been right in saying that our staff has probably told multiple QBs that they're our top target.

That's recruiting. I am all about our coaches being as honest as possible with these recruits but to think coaches don't tell multiple kids at the same position they are "their guy" is silly. If the coaches know they are not willing to take a kid now, I'd prefer the kid to know it. If the kid is a take at any time up till the position is full, "your our #1" is just fine with me.

Maybe it changed. #1 targets are always subject to change as evals and news continues to come out. It's first time Francois has said that and ever since Gibsons troubles has been when Francois has mentioned our staff recruiting him the hardest. They may tell a few the same thing but it entirely possible the staff has switched gears.

"The scenario can play out THREE ways in my eyes"
(i.e. Auburn takes the lead, Tennessee takes the lead, or nothing changes)

What's the alternative, Einstein? He quits football? Randomly claims a new leader not named AU or UT? That Auburn Rivals guy has always been a boob.

Possibly AU takes another QB as does UT and all a sudden Miami is his #1?

At this point, I believe this is still possible.

Will be interesting to see how it all plays out, but I still firmly believe that CBJ will NOT wait until NSD for another QB.

Only way TG is still in play to be a QB Tennessee takes if he waits to commit closer to NSD is if CBJ and staff absolutely strike out on about 5-6 others guys. With the way QB commits have been coming off the board and add to that several talking about deciding before summer is over TG would be well advised to do something MUCH sooner. He waits and his long list of options could end up being 1-2 and those 1-2 may not even be on his top 7 list now.

My thoughts too. We are in play for several QB's now and i'm sure a few that no one really knows now will show out over the summer. Pretty risky for him if you ask me (at least at the QB position).

Yea but that's irrelevant in the context of how TG's visit goes.

"I'm going to the Potato store, i could come home with a potato or come home with no potatoes"
(I could get mugged on the way and end up going to the hospital instead, but that's a variable that created another option.)

The only thing we know is TG likes Auburn and Tennessee equally and the only conceivable thing that could happen is he could like one or the other even more based on these two visits. He's not going to Tennessee and decide to like Miami more. That's irrational.

Don't muddy the water with variables, Leb.

Absolutely correct. Torrence will paint himself into a rather small corner if he holds out too long. Contemporary coaches view elite quarterback prospects as the cornerstone of their classes, not the cherry to be put on top at the last possible moment.

Just saw a video on BR that says we are still in a slight lead for Gibson. The video mentioned depth and WR as big issues. By no means is the BR the gospel but I find it interesting that they would still give us a slight edge after the barn visit.

AND if he waits until NSD, that eliminates any chance of him being an EE...with the work he needs in passing fundamentals, waiting until summer to report almost certainly eliminates early playing time in the Fall...with his superior wheels, he'd be good in short yardage or goalline situations...if he had a rudimentary grasp of the offense he could featured more...but why? Dobbs ain't a statue...he redshirts and hopefully studies and learns Butch's offense. (And keeps us updated via his blog). :)

Link? I actually find these recruiting videos on BR pretty interesting.

New to recruiting? Of course it has played out where a recruit had a school in his top group then after a visit things got shook up. What if on his UT visit the staff does a little negative recruiting toward AU and all a sudden TG were to decide he did not care for UTs tactics, but what they said about AU may be right? Bingo, all a sudden the Canes are #1. It's recruiting. A lot of crazy stuff happens all the time.

I think he does wait and so do we. He's pretty much our only chance at an elite QB this cycle as things stand. It's not like taking another moderately ranked but serviceable QB a few months earlier is going to generate a mass committal of elite talent that wouldn't have otherwise occurred. We'll see.

What if TG were to commit to UT tomorrow? I'm not sure why everyone thinks there are 4-5 5* recruits just sitting back waiting to follow TG wherever he decides to go.

IF he waits till NSD, much like last year I'd expect the class to be full or within 1-2 spots of being full. (McKenzie plans to announce on NSD). Just how many kids are going to all a sudden ON NSD pick UT because Gibson did? There won't be any spots.
