'14 TN WR Josh Malone (UT commit 12/4/13)

I hate to beat this dead horse, but all the comments from people saying "UT has pulled out all the stops, they've done everything they can, it won't be from lack of trying, etc" are almost identical to what people were saying around the end of Vonn Bell's recruiting cycle. Most were guessing he was picking UT, UT had pulled out all the stops, it would be a complete surprise if he didn't, etc, and of course he did pick someone else. It's eerily similar.

I hope this outcome is very different from that one, but as someone else said, it seems like he is really looking for reason to go out of state. A lot of similarities between the way these are both playing out, which doesn't leave me feeling too confident given how it turned out last year.

One HUGE difference in this and Von Bell. The staff has had time to build a relationship.

I think he picks Clemson. Seems like he's just looking for a reason to play out of state. First it's UGA, then FSU, now Clemson. I'm sure he's got nothing against UT... just wants to go somewhere else. Can't really fault him or our staff if that's the case. I think the only thing that has kept us in contention is the fact that we've made him such a priority and clearly this staff has been relentless in the pursuit of Malone... Malone has listened because he feels he owes it to the state's school.... TK, Vic, Hurd, D. Barnett being in his ear has helped keep UT in the top 2/3 as well... but sadly i think that's where we finish, the worng end of the top 2,

I'll be shocked if he picks UT tomorrow. :twocents:

Not that I disagree but don't know why this got so many likes! Ha

So you are saying he was only going to sign with us and his decision was made then???

If so wouldn't that mean everything since then has been done just to build up the spotlight??

I'm not saying that, and nobody knows for sure but him and the family. I know some are trying to read the tea leaves and inferring that, but I'm not. Honestly, I think he was going to sign with all 4 all along to take advantage of the lessened contact rules to make sure he had all the information to make the decision. I just think they wanted to keep it quiet that he had done so. Why else would UT or the family not leak it afterwards if that wasn't part of it? I also think the main reason he signed with us earlier is just the proximity.

Edit: GBO beat me to it!

Knew it was a matter of time before a lot of posters started trending negative on their thoughts for tomorrow.

I really like what we're hearing. Think about it:

-Rivals guy (Woody Wommack) close to the recruitment thinks it's close, but Vol
-247 guy (JC Shurburtt) (100% on predictions this year, mind you) is "firmly convinced" he's a Vol
-Barton Simmons, who covers middle TN recruiting for all of 247, thinks Malone will be a Vol
-UT Rivals/247 sites continue to say "Tennessee has pulled out all the stops"
-QB's are a factor and we are selling him on Riley Ferguson, who is every bit as proven as Deshaun Watson, except Ferguson has had a year to practice in our system, where Watson isn't even at Clemson until January.

Tennessee makes too much sense here.

That makes too much sense.

We all know how freshman QBs struggle to learn a system, get hop to speed with the college game, make the correct reads. Clemson is going to struggle a bit offensively this next season and maybe even beyond.

The Vonn Bell comparisons need to cease immediately. Josh's situation isn't even remotely similar. Enough.

Just because Butch missed on one semi-in-state prospect when he only had two months to win him over is not comparable to Butch's recruitment of Malone.

Quietly? This has been the most drawn-out, sensationalized recruiting that I have ever seen. Don't get me wrong, I want Malone just like everyone else as I believe that he's got all the tools necessary to be great on the field. I just don't believe in all this constant begging and pleading by multiple schools.

The kid and his family have visited 30+ schools, and have let all of these schools "court" them to some degree. Just being the type to "allow" all of this last-minute manipulation and persuasion just makes me leery about how much of a true Vol he will be if he commits. How much drama will come if things don't go his way?

Stay at home, make "your" state proud. If you're really that good, you'll be good anywhere you play.

99.9% of the time I agree with you. But this is laughable...at best.

Clemsons Offense will go through a little bit of the same as what UTs offense went through this yr. That's just the reality of it. No Watkins, No Boyd, not sure what Bryant and McDowell will decide to do.

I understand that, but the final hours are unfolding in a very similar fashion.

I know this isn't true for most of you but I really have not been sweating this one. Not because I'm 100 percent sure he is coming here but THIS YEAR we actually have a great recruiting class regardless. Doesn't mean I won't be disappointed but it won't feel like we are just left standing with our pants down like with Von Bell. Just so many good vibes right now with recruiting if we miss one we will hit on two more.

Hurd at RB has to be attractive to WRs right? I don't think josh would care as much about next year as the next 3. Having North on the other side and Hurd bringing people in the box has to be a good selling point.

Absolutely true.

Butch and his staff have been there from the beginning. I'm sticking by my guns and saying he announces for the Big Orange tomorrow. The Vols are about to receive two very large bricks this week to add to the already solid foundation.

Hopefully Mosley's brick is put at the bottom. Don't want to crush the bricks already in place.
