'14 TN WR Josh Malone (UT commit 12/4/13)

Just for clarification, could someone help me out with this new FA agreement deal?

Since Malone has signed with 4 schools, does that mean the 3 schools that miss out on him lose a spot in their respective recruiting class? Seems it would have to be that way if the agreement states that Malone is guaranteed a spot in each's signing class.

No. Just locks in the student if he wants to go to that school. It is a good thing for the players, but I don't believe the NCAA meant for it to be used for multiple schools. There is some talk about revising it.

Sure hope we get the last visit... Would really mean a lot imo

I hope we don't get into a pissing match over the last visit. If there really hasn't been a decision made yet(I don't buy that) then fighting like a child over the last visit might be costly.

IMO it makes zero difference who is last to visit on the same day! Silly IMO

Not sure on that.

I do know they used to only award bonus points to the Rivals100. Last year was the first year they awarded bounds points to the Rivals250 as well.

Yeah before last year I think they awarded ranking points to HS kids in the Rivals100 and bonus points were awarded based on position rankings at the projected position. Similarly JUCO kids were awarded ranking points for being in the JUCO50 I think it was but they didn't get any bonus points for their projected positions. Of course the values for the Ratings points were also awarded to each player.

So in 2012 and before it was like this:

HS Kids = Rating Points+Rivals100 Points + Position Points
JUCO Kids = Ratings Points + JUCO50 Points

That's the way I remember it.

From his family:

"Josh is big on relationships and he does not like to tell anyone no about anything. He has relationships with coaches from each school and he is going to have to tell three schools no, that will be hard for him. He has to do it and he knows that, but that will not be easy for him."

"Josh has been keeping a journal from the beginning and that is so important now. After every visit, Josh would go to his journal and write about each conversation, how the visit was, and all of the important things so we could look at it now.

"This is truly a family decision," said Mrs. Malone. "It is something my husband and I have discussed on our own and we will discuss with Josh soon."Josh has his own thoughts and we have ours. We will be sitting down, bouncing things off of each other, breaking everything down on each school, and go from there."I am sure we will all agree on some things and disagree on other things. We all see things differently at times and each visit things have changed for us too."At the end of this, we want Josh to come to us with his choice and then we discuss it. We are not going to him with our choice, he will come to us."

"Of course it is nice to hear nice things about your son, but many coaches said the same things. The coaches said 'we want Josh and we need Josh' and I believed some and I didn't believe some."I believe some coaches and schools really need Josh and I believe some really want Josh. Those are different things and Josh recognizes that some, but me, my husband, and Josh's sister see those things too."Josh may be seeing or hearing one things and we may be hearing something different. We all paid close attention on the visits, when coaches talked to us, and we all gathered our thoughts throughout the process."

That sounds promising.

Larry, if you're still around today... I was wondering if you had any insight as to how the qb competition might shake out in the spring. Any body have a leg up on anyone else right now?

I know this might sound crazy but I remember Butch or someone associated saying the exact bolded part a long time ago. I can't remember why or who but I 100% know it was said. Good sign.

Such classy parents. Love their mindset. Josh will be very successful.

Can you imagine Josh's journal entry if he had visited during Kiffin's and Orgerons shirtless escapade inside the Tennessee Theater?

I guess that's where I'm confused. He's "locked" into 4 schools, but I'm not convinced how he can be considered locked. He won't attend 3 of schools with which he signed, and the schools aren't on the hook for letting him sign if he goes elsewhere. I guess I don't really see the purpose of the entire process. I'll just accept that he created an unintended loophole and forget about all of it...if he commits to Tennessee.

The purpose of papers is to lock up a spot for a kid that is ready to shut it down. That's what the NCAA intended it to do for EEs. No way they allow kids to sign with multiple schools next year IMO

"It means a lot because it took me a while to get here and a lot of hard work I put in and it's great that it finally all paid off," Malone told Volquest.com after winning the Mr. Football award. "To tell you the truth, it never really did," Malone said when asked if the awards ever inspired him. "I was just working, trying to improve myself and to better my team and it's just a great achievement of hard work."

"Really, just the family environment and both of them like to pass the ball and they both have opportunities to come in and play early," Malone told Volquest.com on why those two teams are the ones left standing. "So, I have to make the right decision and give the rest up to the Lord and hope he leads me to the right decision."

Along with Tennessee's coaching staff representing the Vols, Tennessee had five commitments from the class of 2014 and 2015 in attendance as well and Malone heard from that group as well. "I heard a lot," Malone said. "I know they've been texting me about the need for me up there and that means a lot."

Malone will now meet with both Tennessee and Clemson coaching staffs tonight before making a decision late Monday night or early Tuesday morning and then plans to announce that decision at noon on Wednesday at Station Camp High School.

He's not locked in anywhere. He can go to any school that will have him. If he chooses to go to one of the 4 schools he signed the FAA with, then they must honor the scholarship offer.

Goes back to my original point. By what you just said, Josh Malone has locked up a spot at Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia, and Clemson. Signed and official.

Again, I'll just accept the loophole and move on.

The purpose of the signed FA is to give the coaches of the prospective schools unlimited contact with the prospective recruit without the fear of NCAA sanctions.

The only ones that can have this "unlimited" contact are the schools with the signed FA in hand. If Josh picks one of the schools with the agreement. It assures that the coaching staff can't back away from his commitment.

At least ... that is the way I look at it.

The guy has been a model for how recruitment should be done. He has absolutely no outside influences really other than him and his family and I'm sure very close friends. The part of his mother mentioning she could tell which coaches meant it when they said they need Josh and which ones were just saying that... You know she has to be talking about Butch. She knows that for him to get this program back to where it needs to be, Josh Malone would be a huge NEEDED piece of the puzzle.

I'll just say this.. We beat USCe and they beat Clemson, therefore we beat Clemson in this recruiting battle.. Josh sees the future is unlimited at UT and clemson will always be little brother to the SEC when it matters.
