Serious question,

Why would rival coaches send screenshots of message board crap. I know if I was a recruit I would laugh at it and not pay any attention to it. You can't verify whether you are an actual fan or just a rival posing as a rival fan. Not so sure I buy that.

Some coaches, like Franklin, do what they have to do because they can't do it any other way.

I also hope some of the posters on here at least try to reserve their comments. I've always said it on here that parents and families definitely read message boards. It is much more relevant now with social media. You can have direct access to a professional athlete via Twitter. These kids see those things all the time. They know that they're going to have to deal with it all the time in the future, if they're successful.

it basically means you lack confidence in your own product. can't think of another reason why.

I hope the stuff wasn't bad, whatever was said...

Because many of these coaches know how... easily manipulated these 17 year olds are and stoop as low as necessary.

I know Malone has been quiet in his recruiting...so all we can hope for now is locking up an official visit this fall. Get him inside Neyland and it will make our sale that much easier.

GFS - grasping for straws

Quite truthfully, I can say I've never given up hope of signing Josh Malone.

If a team has one great receiver, he can be double-teamed. If you've got two great receivers and a mobile QB, you can force the defense into situations they are not able to adequately defend.

I think North may be the only receiver on our roster that could demand a double team in a couple of years. Not that we don't have others who could be pretty good, but I don't see other teams feeling a need to double cover them. I don't see any guys committed in the 2014 class that would demand a double team. I think Malone could be that other guy.

Hell. I wouldn't put it past 'ol Jamie Franklin being the one responsible for the crap that is typed before the screen shot.

He impersonates the Vol fan, then takes the screen shot of what he typed himself.

Buck is very bullish on Malone landing in Knoxville come Dec/Jan. With he and North on the outside, Howard and others in the slot, and Hurd as a RB with the defense spread out would be very good.

Malone seems to have moved timetable up, I think thats good for us.

Also, FSU's writer has Tennessee on Crystal ball dating back to May and has not changed it. I think thats a good sign on that front.

I think this is still in play andthe number of true freshman we are lookinng at playing may only help things.

He was here for Florida last year. He already knows what's up. If that ain't for him, see ya. On to the next one. No one recruit is going to make or break a class.

I don't want to say too much, but these kids are impressionable. I know for a fact Coach Franklin is a member of this board, as are others I won't name (cough UGA)...specifically with Franklin, he sells the kids on the Vandy degree and whatever random negative crap he finds on these (and other) boards and uses them to influence kid's support systems...these kid's parents aren't usually the brightest people. He sells them on a Vandy education but neglects to say that most important classes are graded on a curve. While Coach Franklin can get kids admitted into Vandy, he can't affect their grades (if he could, that would be very interesting, to say the least). So if you introduce a bunch of kids into classes where they are clearly at a disadvantage, what does it matter that your degree says Vandy? I know they say C's get degrees but you can rule out law school, medical school, and most good phd programs with those kind of marks. And no, Coach Franklin is not recruiting Rhodes Scholars, he's recruiting average to below average students, arguably putting them at a severe disadvantage in their studies by placing them with a group that doesn't have football to worry about and is smarter to begin with...

I grew up in Hendersonville and will be headed back several times this fall. I am looking forward to watching Beech and Station Camp play. I'll report back whatever I see too.

Also, on the coaches sending pictures...thats a little pathetic. Every fan base always has a group of idiot fans pissing someone off. I guarantee you Butch has not mentioned a single thing about a Vandy fan or even the easy target of the recent players that were booted for a good reason. The difference is that Franklin has to do things like this to sway the player's decisions. And I have no clue at all, and this is my opinion, but I doubt Butch ever did it at Central Michigan or Cinn. People that do that get what's coming to them.

On Malone, I really hope he chooses UT. He will be a difference maker, and could really help the Orange and White in the Rise To The Top!

What stops a rival coach from creating a fake account and posting negative comments then screen shooting said comments... NOTHING, so F off Franklin and Vandy trolls. You spend your time doing that, and Butch will spend his time bringing in stud players to curb stop you. Rant finished.

I can guarantee you that is not the case. All coaching staffs use whatever info they can to get an edge, some call it negative recruiting. Don't kid yourself.

We've had more than one recruit say that they really appreciated that TN coaches never said anything about other schools...they only talk about what TN can do for them. Believe what you want but our recruits tell a different story.

Some coaches, like Franklin, do what they have to do because they can't do it any other way.

IT would not be just Franklin. But Franklin has to negative recruit since he has nothing to sell. And right now he wants to keep the attention off the problems at Vanderbilt.

You'd be surprised to learn that there are staffs who do not negative recruit. Many feel it's bad for 'business' in the long run.
