'14 TN WR Josh Malone (UT commit 12/4/13)

This. Not at all.

Not even close.

Tennessee has freaking Josh Smith running around getting pelted square in the facemask week after week, unable to make a routine catch. From a football standpoint, Tennessee needs Malone.

And, perhaps even more than as a receiver, Tennessee needs Josh Malone from an image standpoint. The first step in restoring our status as an SEC power is restoring our dominance recruiting in the state of Tennessee. UT needs to lock down the top player in the state.

Clemson would love to have him, but at the end of the day, he's just a long-shot 5-star out of state prospect. Similar to Garrett or Jackson for us. A wish list guy, but not a need.

Clemson had no problem moving the ball against LSU last year (sick ass D, 7 players drafted or something absurd), UGA, or even USCe this year. They went 2-1 in those games. It wasn't that they couldn't move the ball, it's that they had 6 turnovers, 2 on punt returns.

The recent history is the most relevant in most folks mind. LSU was impressive.

I'm not saying Taj is bad, just playing a little devils advocate.

Preach on!

DESTROY them. They are awful and a product of a very down SEC East. They almost lost to wake at home. We beat Wake by 50 something points and pulled the starter in the 3rd.

So by using that logic, since we beat USCjr by 2, and yall lost by 14, we'd win by 10 or more?

I could see it.

Clemson would destroy Vandy and anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

UT would have destroyed Vandy if we had a QB that didn't have an obvious case of the jitters and WRs that could actually secure the ball instead of playing hot potato and/or volleyball with it.

The gameplan against Vandy was solid but an 18y/o QB and severely untalented WRs lost that for us.

Number 1 reason we get him.....our coach is named Butch and their's is DABO. Come on!

I mean if someone told you sight unseen one of these two names were going to be by your side in a fight....

I don't disagree with any of that. I was just looking at it from my perspective as a mom (and it was his mom's comment I was referring to.)

I guess the flip side is she could have been saying Clemson doesn't really need him, they just want him, like a trophy.

OK, I'm back to thinking we get him. Thanks J. :)

You can't do that well we beat so and so by whatever. Vandy played USCe better than you all did if we want to go there. they lost 35-25. You all lost 31-17. So I think they would give you a run for your money.

The other comparison would be South Carolina and GA. They lost to SC by 10 and also beat GA. You lost to SC by 14 with both games against SC on the road.

Trust me, I understand that logic doesn't work in pretty much any scenario. My point is that when you're pulling your starters in the 3rd Qtr, that team isn't even in the same ballpark as you.

We would have beat wake by 20 even if we had 6 turnovers, like we did vs USCe.

My point is that I don't think Vandy is worth a crap and was asked a direct question on how Clemson would fair against them.

I won't waste anymore of this thread on debating Clemson though. I'm actually pretty damn down on them after the debacle last weekend.

Any questions about Malone's recruitment from my perspective, fire away though.......

Can't we have a little fun with our guest from a different shade of orange.

Dabo's problem isn't beating a good team or two each year (LSU, UGA, etc). His problem is lack of consistency with all that talent. Clemson will beat 5 ACC teams in a row then lose to BC, Maryland or GT even with superior talent. Or get blown out badly like WVU in the bowl or FSU in Death Valley this year. He'll never lose enough games, with that weak schedule, to get fired but never win it all either. Dabo is Mark Richt of the ACC expect Richt beats his instate rival at the end of the year.

Clemson beats vandy easily 3 times out of 5.

The other 2 times the Dabo factor allows vandy to win.

Dabo is good for a few eggs laid regularly

Anyone see Todd Kelly smile about maybe getting to play with another UT commit in the Army AA game? I know he was talking about Malone. He seemed like he may know something, or at least he is confident

Lol, winning a few big games doesn't make you an elite program.

Clemson=WestVirginia
Clemson=Oklahoma St
Clemson=Michigan St

All fine fine programs....all 2nd tier. Always have been always will be. And it won't be long until we're back over there stealing the best players from the state of South Carolina. We've always done it, we always will. Don't let a couple down years fool you.

This statement simply isn't accurate. We haven't lost to a team not named FSU or USCe since Nov of 2011. These are our 2 biggest rivals, and it is a MAJOR problem, IMO.

A more accurate perspective on Dabo is that he handles business against almost everyone, but simply can not beat his rivals.

Anyways, moving on. I'll post if I hear anything from our side of the isle. This is a hell of a forum. Still think he picks you guys tomorrow. Hope I'm wrong.

He's won 18 straight by double digits against unranked opponents too. Bet the Vols would be loving a double digit win over the Vandy's of the world. He's also beat a top 10 LSU and a top 5 UGA team. To act like he hasn't won big games is just being extremely selective in your argument.

Oh, and I completely agree with you on the USCjr thing. Nobody wants that whole fiasco to stop more than me. It's just one of those things, but to try and spin it like our program sucks is just not accurate.

"Vandys" of the world? Plural? How many unranked teams did we lose to? That's the only one. You lose 5-6 games with our schedule. Butch just got here beat SC, who you lost to, and we all but beat Georgia as well. And Vandy did beat them. You would not beat Vandy by a large margin. So you are being selective too. Lots of ways to look at things.

Hmmm from your perspective. How much do you all need Malone? You all have some great WRs already and Demarre Kitt coming in. If I was your coaches I would be getting some Oline because that seems to be your largest problem that I have seen. Poor Tajh Boyd has to roll out to save his life basically every other play it seems
