'14 TN WR Josh Malone (UT commit 12/4/13)

They just watched Auburn go 3-9 and they still loaded up again even through a coaching change.

I know they won a ship 3 years ago, so that may be different. But still..a 3-9 season didn't hurt them much.

Besides 3-9 they watched Gus Mahlzahn coach Cam Newton to a Heisman trophy there. Big difference in their minds.

"Really, it's all of them. Coach Thigpen, Coach Jones, I basically talk to all of them every time I call one of them. It's definitely a different vibe up there," Malone, who indicated he expected to check out one of the Vols' spring practices, explained. "It's just the way all the players are moving around. They've got a little swagger going on. It's definitely a different atmosphere."

"Right when you walked into the facility," he said. "You walked in and see everybody around, right when you walked in it was just a whole entirely different energy. Right when you walk onto that 100-yard indoor field, you just feel an entirely different energy than before."

"I'm a legit 190, and it's going to help me out a lot more because I can use my weight more and be more physical coming off the ball," he said. "I can use my weight more and get leverage. It feels good at this weight. Hopefully I can pick up more when I get to college and play at around 200."

Having won a national title in the last few years helped Auburn. Having consistently been a contender during the last 5 years helped Auburn.

And you can't ignore the fact that Gus was a member of that staff only a year ago, and probably already had relationships with many of the players who ultimately signed with Auburn this year. That makes a huge differences.

Comparing us to Auburn is apples and oranges. I think we should be compared to Ole Miss, based on our track record in recent years.

And I like the model Ole Miss developed this past year...

Would be a nice fit in CBJ offense. He talks to the coaches on a weekly basis and likes what Coach Jones has to say and all he offers. He extremely likes WR coach Zach Azzanni. Look for him to show up at the spring game and get more of a feel for this program.

I don't think we should ever be compared to Ole Miss.

Ha ha. I hear you. I just mean the last few years in isolation. No - we are definitely not Ole Miss in the grand scheme of things. We've been relevant nationally within the past 50 years...

Yea you gotta think Malone is next unless Bates decides to go ahead and pull the trigger.

There have been rumors thst we lead for Malone, and then rumors to the contrary, and that he likes Florida.

Anyone care to clear the air on this? Are we sitting pretty?

Need to keep him in TN. He and Vic may be the two most explosive players in the state this year.

I'm going to pull up a chair in this thread and wait for Malone's commitment. Football is fun again.

Not sure how much he "likes" UF but he told GB247 that he wants to make it down for UF spring game and that he's really tight with Will Grier.

I don't know why people are so confident in Gaulden. That guy loves James Franklin. It's possible to get him, but Vandy leads right now.

He may love Franklin but with the influx of kids heading to the hill and the program looking like it's on the upswing...there's only so much Franklin can do. Look at the facilities he would practice/play in with some other in-state guys that he has probably been playing with/against since jr. ball. Franklin is going to be hard pressed to win any significant recruiting battles against Butchy.

I'm just saying we shouldn't lock Gaulden in as a vol lock. Franklin is a very good recruiter and has been on Gaulden hard for awhile now.
