'14 TN DB Todd Kelly Jr. (UT Signee 2/5/14)

“I got to spend some time with (secondary) coach (Willie) Martinez and Trooper Taylor,” Kelly said. “I got to tour the campus and everything like that so I enjoyed it overall.”

Kelly has a long relationship with Taylor from when he was an assistant at Tennessee from 2004-07. Kelly and Taylor’s son, Blaise Taylor, grew up playing youth sports together. The families remain close friends

“Coach Taylor to come out whenever he could to watch his son play and me and his son were both stars on the team,” Kelly said. “He’s tried to keep up with me ever since.

“My sophomore film really got him excited as well as the Auburn staff and that’s when they decided to offer me.”

Growing up in Knoxville and having a father that played for Tennessee in the early 90‘s, Kelly already knew plenty about the Vols program when he attended last Saturday’s Junior Day.

“They treated me pretty well,” he said. “I got to talk with Coach (Derek) Dooley. I sat down with him with my parents and we talked about the University and what they have to offer. It went well overall as well.”

Even with his ties to the Volunteer program, Kelly doesn’t have any current favorites and plans to take his time with a decision.

“I’m still undecided,” he said. “I’m going to let everything take its course and just go slow because I’m only a sophomore. Only time will tell but there shouldn’t be a decision anytime soon.”

Yeah have fun trying to get this one.

Just posting an update, I don't think AU has much of a chance with him.

I would say they have somewhat of a chance with Taylor being there. Just like the Berry twins but I think in the end hopefully they choose the VOLS.

He'll be at the NUC combine this weekend. There will be some über talented kids attending. I'll be there and try and give some updates.

You sure thats not next weekend? I could be wrong but I am attending a camp in Franklin this weekend and he is suppose to be there.

NUC camp in Knoxville is 3/16-18

From Vic Wharton article. About conversations between Vic and Todd Kelly Jr.

"It's been pretty crazy. He just keeps talking to me about playing together again. He's been talking about me playing with him again," Wharton said. "We played little league football together in sixth grade and since then we've always talked about how we were going to UT. But, we didn't know we were going to have all these offers, too."

Long way to go with this guy but he's not as vocal about the Vols as I expected at this point in the process.

If this staff is smart, someone is in his ear selling him on being the next Eric Berry...

... The next Vol legacy who follows his dad and comes in here and becomes the next prolific DB for the Vols. Its always unfair to compare anyone to Berry, but they should make the kid believe that he has the ability to make that kind of impact, especially for his hometown team

Myth.

He doesn't need to be Berry 2.0. All he has to do is be TKjr. he's good enough to be a star for us without being the next anybody. Boy is a special player for his generation. His film for a sophomore is crazy. Just a natural physical playmaker on both sides of the ball. I'm very excited to see what he looks like in a couple of years.

New sophomore film on Todd Kelly Jr. Will be very highly rated and recruited when 2014 comes around. Early on he favors UT and VT.

Todd Kelly Jr - SS/ATH (Sophomore Varsity Football Highlights 2011) - YouTube

I hadn't watched this until today, very impressive. I'm sure the guy on crutches @ 3:55 doesn't agree tho lol.

He runs so fluid, makes it look like he isn't even trying. The only time he looks like he sprinted all out was the blocked kicks off the corner. Put a guy like this in the defensive backfield with Vonn Bell and it'll be hard not to average at least one turnover a game with their nose for the ball.

Will be so sweet to have TK, Vonn, and the Berry twins all together in the secondary! Maybe one as a LB?

Would be sweet for sure. Throw in our chances with the Warton kid and our future seems pretty set back there. Makes me wonder if this hurts us with other DBs (ie Alexander). I know I know if they don't want to compete we don't want them, but seriously we have serious talent with us on the top of their list the next couple yrs. Which makes me happy of course. :).

If we could only have a couple ex-lineman with kids. Did Reggie White not have any boys???

Crazy to think how the secondary went from having EB to the weakest its been in a long time this past season, to potentially being our strength after the '14 class.

Haha would be the icing on the cake! Seriously tho, I am excited about all the talented DE's and DT's we are in on and that we brought in last year also. At this point I think I'd be happier if Reggie had a son that was a 5* running back!

Naa, it shouldnt, we just have to win. Its really no excuse. Notice the teams on top have no problem loading talent on top of talent, to the point where we are all thinking "why would that recruit go there".

Yeah really, you think back to 07 when he got here and there were no signs of anything slowing down anytime soon. Yet a perfect storm was brewing, you just never know how things are gonna turn out. However it is the same when things get better. Stuff will just start going right and then the rest follows.

Yeah a 5* legacy RB is exactly what we need about now. I'm happy with our d-lineman too, but would be nice to have a 5* legacy at d-line right now too. FSU just got lucky with that one.

I've thought the same thing, but not sure if it won't somewhat hurt us. We have yrs success then we should be at that level. At the end of the day it'll be a "con" on his "pro/con" list. That's all i'm saying.

A lot of people are forgetting about McNeil already being here. Dude is going to be something serious at safety for us.

Not me, lol! I know, McNeil's film looks sick! Really looks like the real deal, but by the time these young kids are peaking he will probably be pro, unless he redshirts. Maybe one year together which would be sweet too!
