'14 TN DB Rashaan Gaulden (UT Signee 2/5/14)

What's so funny to me is that teams have got to be trying to run away from Gaulden, but there is no escaping. There could be a wide receiver screen to the other side of the field and Gaulden would make a tackle for a loss somehow.

Most of the time his is playing the single high safety in the middle of the field. Some times he's not, but the majority he lines up about 12-15 yards off the ball in the middle of the field and goes to the ball. A lot of times, especially on edge plays, he beats their linebackers to the point. It's quite impressive to watch.

To us he is a 5*. Who cares about rivals, scout or 247 and their bogus rankings and scouting

If recruiting at a high level per the rankings didn't directly effect results on the field I would agree. However programs that win recruiting championships are winning championships on the field so its very hard to argue rankings don't matter.

Absolutely cannot wait 'til Rashaan and the rest of the 2014 class are on the field.

Huge need at DB. Our secondary could be good next year. It will be great within two years. Our two-deeps are going to be professional football players.

I thought I read somewhere that he was a Miami fan and if they offered, he might be interested. Also, that he is from there. Any possible issue here? I hope not.

Gaulden- 6'
McDowell- 6'3

These guys along with Payne, Sutton and TKjr? Our defensive backfield is fixing to be really good.

It is VERY easy to pick out the game changers. If Bama is showing interest to a player, the recruiting sites pick up on it.

Georgia says hello! Oh yeah, on the flip side, Oregon says hello, too!

Surely you aren't suggesting the top 10 in recruiting rankings doesn't look a lot like the the top 10 looks like at the end of every year???

Yes, I am suggesting that to an extent. Go look at the top 10 and top 25 right now. Top 10 alone are Missouri, Okie State, Baylor, USCe, and Stanford who are never or hardly ever recruiting top 10 classes. Throw in Arizona State, Oregon, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Duke, and a couple mid-majors...these usually have very mediocre recruiting classes according to recruiting sites' rankings. Now, throw in Georgia, Florida, Texas, USCw, who r always top 10 in recruiting, yet none of them are sniffing the top 10. Do I want to TN to have the #1 recruiting class every year? Absolutely!! Because you have a much better chance of consistent success and building an elite program that sustains if you can consistently recruit that way, but plenty of programs have great success with what we consider average classes.

FSU
Ohio State
Auburn

Where have they finished in recruiting the past 5 years??

The answer will tell you all you need to know about recruiting rankings.

Ok, bruin. Whatever dude! You win! You keep changing your tune. You said in your prior post that the top 10 in recruiting rankings usually look very similar to the top 10 rankings. I just showed you 5 teams out of that top 10 who usually don't sniff the top 10 in recruiting rankings. I showed you many more who are in the top 25. So, my point is that there is a mixed bag of teams in the top 10 and top 25, whose classes cover a very broad spectrum in the recruiting rankings.

I get what you are saying but outside of the west coast you better be in the top 10 in recruiting every year if you want a shot at being consistently being in the top 10

The 4 that have a shot winning a NC title this year weren't below 11th in the past 3 years in recruiting. Recruiting rankings lead to winning big and the results prove it.
