'14 TN DB Rashaan Gaulden (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Doesn't sound sad to me. It's early in the process, and we've already made huge progress. Give it time.

The only thing this staff can't show a recruit is their system with orange jerseys running it...I'm sure they don't want to show Bearcat highlights...so when these recruits see our current Vols ballin on tape we'll get even more love IMO

So much of sports performance is mental. With this team actually beginning to believe in itself, with specific goals, rather than a never ending general "process", we may be surprised at what they can do

:)

O-line play and a running game can cover up major flaws. Bama got one with Glen Coffee leading the charge in Saban's second year. :)

Vandy is leading because they hopped on this kid first. While I'll attribute that we might have gotten started a bit later, being first only works so far when the recruit is so enamored with another school(Tennessee in this case) that is showing him major love now.

this is also why Franklin, and coaches at programs like Vandy, lobby so hard for an early signing period.

Rashaan Gaulden - Highlight Videos, Schedule & Roster - Hudl

Not that this matters, cause it really doesn't, but I'm very familiar with Indy's wrestling program and have never seen this kid on a mat... I know we're recruiting him to play varsity football and not club wrestling, but I thought was a little strange. Just sayin'

Coach Jones definitely showed me something today with the experience that we got to have running out of the T, meeting the players and just having a good time today,” Gaulden said. “It is something that I am going to remember.
“There is a difference from back when Dooley was recruiting me. They definitely climbed charts just from today.”
“I feel (the swagger), trust me,” he said. “Not being that much of a Tennessee fan and hearing coach Jones talk about all his championships and seeing all his players believing in his philosophy, I really feed on that.”
Gaulden, who measured in at 6-foot-1, 178 pounds, says the conversations with the new coaching staff set the Vols apart during his first trip to Knoxville this year.
“Coach Martinez — he was on me like glue. I just love spending time and talking with him. I am definitely going to be up here again soon. Coach Thig, too. I love him. He is a cool, down-to-earth dude.”
“Vic Wharton — him and his parents are just nagging me about UT,” Gaulden said. “They are just like 'when are you going to commit?' But I did have a good experience up here and they definitely weren’t lying.
“We have been good friends since we were 4-years-old running track against each other. That is a pretty big deal. He is working on me slowly. I act like it doesn’t matter, but he is nagging me and it could be working.”
Tennessee is still trying to play catch up with Vanderbilt, who has been on the mid-state athlete from the jump.
“I feel at home with Vanderbilt,” he said. “They are at the top of my list right now. Coming here and getting the chemistry with the new coaches though — they are climbing my board big time.”

sad...

Sad? Did I miss something? Sounds promising to me. Vandy got on him first when Dools ignored him, but now that the Calvary showed up and began showing him the love he's beginning to see the light. Looks like to me it's heading in the right direction early in the game.

Maybe i'm in the minority, but after watching his film, it wouldn't bother me one bit if he ended up at vandy

Of course vandy would feel like home he lives in Nashville. Lets not overreact. Tn in good position IMO thanks to Wharton, Malone and new staff

Just watched his film and I don't think he's as close to TKjr as they're saying. JMO though

any time a kid can play and/or start at Brentwood Acad. as a Fresh or Soph, he can play. Missing his Jr year hurt a lot with scouting his development etc. Should be interesting to watch his offer sheet expand. He should hit the camp/combine circuit hard this summer and will be in the secondary with Wharton next year which will help because teams can't just stay away from one without going at the other.

Don't take it wrong man. I think he can play he's just not as far along as TKjr right now. You can tell one has been coached up a bit more.

To me, his film looks like he may be D1 material but he doesn't look elite. I agree with BB because TKJ's film does look elite. It takes certain players to not just play, but to compete in the SEC. It's very possible that I could be missing something, but to me, he looks good against what looks to be average competition, he needs to look elite. The guy can play, but I think he needs to step his game up. Jmo

Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong. But didn't buck Fitzgerald say in the past that gaulden was the best prospect in the state (ahead of ramsey or tk jr). Seems like I read that on here before

Also, Buck Fitzgerald (known as corner36 on VQ) has said multiple times that Gaulden is the best player in the state for '14, & yes he even said better than Todd Kelly Jr.

I disagree with Buck because I think so much of Todd Kelly, Sr.

...but like Gaulden.

Yeah I wasn't saying I agree or disagree. I just remembered reading that before. And also I think somewhere it says he grew up a fan of the U
