'14 TN DB Rashaan Gaulden (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Between McDowell and Gaulden who do you think is the better DB prospect. I know Gaulden is being looked at for both Safety and CB but McDowell is rated just a little bit higher on Rivals and a lot of bit higher on 247. Based on film and everything else, who ya got?

It's Gaulden for me if for nothing else he is an instate kid. I think both will play early in college and be impact guys. I think Gaulden is a corner and McDowell is a safety. JMO

Exactly. It's one of the few good ideas Kiffin had (playing him at WR). Feel bad for Teague now though, it's like a career wasted.

im not sure i would say wasted - at the end of the day he was a talented high school player who had a good chance to develop into a very good athlete - however by the time he was senior he just hadnt developed enough athletically to be a great SEC DB or WR - if he had run a 4.4 or 4.5 but could never get DB technique down i get the argument

but a guy doesnt go from a 4.7 to a 4.5 just by lining him up on the other side of the ball

seems pretty clear to me he is one that just didnt progress athletically as much as you would have thought

"This was just to see how my family liked the coaches and the academics and the athletics that Tennessee has and they was very impressed with it," Gaulden said. "The academics impressed my mom and my dad, they liked everything about it."

"It was a really good visit for me and my family to be able to be there and receive hospitality from all the coaches and tour everywhere from academics to the athletic facilities," Gaulden said. "It was really good to see them show a lot of hospitality towards my family and it made me feel important. That stuck out the most. "They made me feel important and they just showed me that they really wanted me and I really liked that,."

"It's still pretty much the same. I'm gaining interest in South Carolina some. I'm planning to go up there some time soon. But, for right now Tennessee is still up there in the lead," Gaulden offered.

"They just have a lot of good tradition on the defense, it's been pretty dominant recently," Gaulden said. "I like something about their swagger and I just like the program and I have a good relationship with coach Steve Spurrier Jr."

Not making a decision anytime soon. No other summer visits planned.

south carolina has been dominant on defense lately??

11th in total D last season. Better than that the year before. Established system versus new for us. Gives him something to think about, but in the end I see him being all Vol.

Wow, lots of butthurt over my comment. I state an opinion and all of a sudden I'm a Vandy troll XD I hate Vandy. Almost as much as I hate Florida. People should read profiles before they go spouting off insults. Gaulden is an extremely instinctive player. I made my comment AFTER watching ALL his film, like an educated person would, and then remarked that I think he's just a little slow at the CB position. A good CB, in my eyes, needs to run at least a 4.5. Gaulden has great burst after the 3rd step or so. So you could say he has nickelback range. I've seen some fast people in my day, but Gaulden is just above average from his film. That's my opinion. Not every recruit in the class is a day one superstar like an Adoree Jackson, CP, or Jalen Hurd. We are taking a TON of Defensive Back's this class, and someone is going to get sat a while and someone is going to get their position changed for playing time. Fact of life. Gaulden is an extremely talented athlete who I want at UT and who deserves to see the field, I just think he looks like a better fit bulked up at OLB. We are talking about a player going into his senior year already at 185. It isn't implausible to put him at OLB or NB, unless you want to see long Touchdowns on the outside for a few more years. Stop bashing and take a seat back down people.

Btw we aren't exactly loaded at OLB.

he will need to gain around 50 lbs to be a LB... and would lose speed because of it

Alot of OLB play at around 215, and I've seen lower. He'll lose some speed in transition, but not enough to make him too slow to play OLB. He'll actually be quite fast at the position. He's already at 185. It really isn't such an unfathomable transformation. His skillset fits, and he has the frame.

Gaulden wants to play CB here, and it's been publicly noted from his own mouth that this is where CBJ and staff plan to try him at first. If then he fails he will be moved to S, and def not LB. The only S that can play LB is Elliot Berry, and if we land him I'd say we will play him where he fits best at. I also think Maybin can play S/LB as well, and I'm very excited to see what he brings to the table this year.

Couple posts from corner36 on Gaulden...

"He will need to get bigger and he will. The important thing is he has the frame for it. He is a serious track guy right now in high school. He is a S. He is a lot like Jackson in that the cover very well for a Safety. They can play corner in spots, not long stretches. Vs the spread offenses today you need Safties that can cover down."

Similar to Gibril Wilson?

"He is more athletic and has better all skills than Wilson. Wilson a much better box player"

Yeah. Corner is really high in Gaulden. He believes he's the best DB in the state. Better than TKjr even.

Pretty different players. TK is definitely better in run support, but Gaulden seems to have great coverage. FS/SS combo, or is Gaulden going to play CB?

Whatever you wanna think dude, I got plenty of papers, reviews, and awards to tell me I'm plenty intelligent. You know, just in case I start to feel insecure. I feel confident in my opinion. I may be wrong, I may be right, I never stated it as fact. It's my evaluation. If you agree or not makes no difference to me. I just put an option out there that could POSSIBLY happen.
