It is complex for a period of time when u have played man ur entire career. Hes used to locking on his man. I guess if you have everyone runs streaks like in the back yard then yes the cover 3 is very simple. Not sure sc oblidged yesterday though.

I won't lie most times you teach a kid how to play Cover 3 first being that it's so easy to play. All you have to do is line up off the ball and not let a man beat you deep in your third. All he has to do is slide/shuffle step and read the QB. Man coverages are much more complex.

What is he mad about?

According to some in the know, like Ron, once Rivals rates a guy they seldom move off their position regardless of new information.

The implication here being that Rivals (Woody) initially ranked Mosely quite low and have done little to elevate his ranking despite mounting evidence that he was mis-ranked to begin with. Now seeing Mosely win an MVP only furthers the obvious, that their initial assessment was wrong.

Agree with everything you said except I believe Cam's technique is exceptional. Sure, it can get better but I've never seen a kid straight out of HS with technique like he has... well beyond his years. Cam will not be here 4 years IMO.

Two words... Willie. Martinez... Huge and very good teacher on technique. You didn't see it from the older DB's b/c they are already set in their ways but with the Frosh trying to learn all things taught, they listened to CWM.

His youngest son is the spitting image of Emmanuel Mosely.

So Adam Friedman, the Rivals guy who co-authored that article with Woody, basically just said on twitter that the MVP was given to Moseley and that the people who gave it to him didn't watch the game. He still mad.

It is sad that they have an agenda to tear this kid down. I hope he uses it as a chip on his shoulder when he gets the Knoxville.

I hope all the young men from team 118 play with a chip on their shoulders and beat the brakes off whoever they play.

Woody Wommack started a thread on VQ to discuss Moseley and his performance the other day in the Shrine Bowl. The thread has since been locked after people didn't quite agree with Woody. I'll share some of his quotes...

Emmannuel Moseley -- Let's use this thread

It's easier for me this way. All I ask is that you watch the game with your own eyes and then we can have a discussion about it. I know he's your guy and you're going to defend him, but you can go on ESPN3 right now and watch the replay, or wait until Dec. 28 when they show it on ESPNU.

I wish him winning the MVP meant he was the best defensive player there, it would make my job a lot easier, but the Shriners Club of Spartanburg is the group who voted on the award. Not the local media, not the coaches, but the organizers of the game.

I think he's a developmental prospect for sure. I'm just wondering how he will hone that speed. That's the question. I think cornerback is a position of need and spots are valuable, that's why I'm surprised he was so high on the board.

The reason why I continue to talk about it is because it continues to come up, with several commenters saying he "deserves" a bump in the rankings. If I don't make it clear what my evaluation of him is now, it will just lead to hard feelings down the road.

He has the speed and he gets to the ball well as a safety, but it seems unlikely that it could be his future position.

Yeah, and he's about 160, even if he bulks up to 185, he's still slight compared to guys like Todd Kelly, the Berry's, etc. I said it earlier that he's a good football player, the kind of guy you want playing both ways for you in a game of pick up. Sometimes that doesn't always translate to a position on an SEC team.

I think he might be better as an offensive player, but he's committed to Tennessee as a defensive back and that's where we have to try to project him at this point.

The No. 1 thing he lacks right now is size, and the ability to react quickly to the movement of bigger wide receivers. There's no doubt he has speed, but sometimes it seems as if he thinks too much and by that time the receiver is by him. As he faces, bigger, stronger and faster receivers as well as quarterbacks who can deliver excellent throws, he won't be able to hang back and bait people into throwing interceptions.

As a safety he has good instincts and I think he benefits from being able to see the entire field, survey and then react. When he's playing with his back to the line of scrimmage he really struggles.

If he gains weight, especially 20-30 lbs, which is no easy feat, there's no guarantee that he keeps the thing that Tennessee loves the most, elite speed.

I feel like you're baiting me here. If I continue to provide negative answers then I'm going after the kid. How detailed do you want me to go?

I have nothing against him I'm just trying to get my point across. There are threads suggesting he should be a four-star, and if I don't make it clear now that it's not a possibility there will be a meltdown on the board when the new rankings come out. I'm trying to manage expectations here. In this case that involves driving my point home several times.

At this point, no. That's why we keep talking about. If I knew he was moving up I would stay out of it and let you guys discuss how well he played freely with no input on my part.

The key thing to remember with him is that he'll be playing in Offense-Defense on Jan. 3, a game I will also be attending with even better talent. Say he goes there and wins the MVP? Then I'll be eating crow.

Seems like a fair analysis. I'm no talent evaluator, but that's been my rough evaluation/expectation. Seems like a developmental guy (with some upside if he puts it all together). I don't have a problem with this given all the other guys we have in this class. A 30+ man class is bound to have a reach or two.

i wouldnt have him at a 4* either, but hes better than a 5.5 3* IMO. I really thought hed be bumped up to a 5.6 3* on the verge of a 5.7 3*

Woody just doesn't like this kids game at all. He is being borderline unprofessional in bashing this player.
Maybe I missed it, but what has he said unprofessional? Where did he bash him?

Telling VQ what their opinion of Moseley is and why isn't bashing, it's his job.

Reads to me like he's being perfectly reasonable.

I don't think Woody is being unprofessional. I think Woody's problem is once he evaluates a player, he is reluctant to change his evaluation. He would rather defend his initial ranking than admit that his initial evaluation was off, perhaps due to the player developing or from Woody not having sufficient materials to evaluate him. I think the problem is more ego than anything he has against Moseley.

Woody doesn't want to change his evaluation. Therefore, he spends more time pointing out what is wrong with Moseley rather than things he does well. I agree Moseley is no 4 star, but he should be either a 5.6 or 5.7.

Woody has caught heat from other fan bases for his evaluations too. GA fans were really mad at his evaluation of one of their DT commits, Lamont Galliard. He is a 3 star on rivals, but is a 5 star on 247, the number 2 overall DT on ESPN, number 3 overall DT on Scout, AND a UA All American. Woody's opinion on the other sites disagreeing with Rival's 3 star evaluation? "We don't use their rankings for ours. Too much group-think potential." Sigh. With Galliard, at least the ranking isn't due to a refusal to change his rankings, as rivals had him ranked high then dropped him.

Evaluators aren't coaches. Im sure Woody and Rivals are upset they don't get to choose the MVP, because the Shrine Bowl's choice made their rankings look off on the defensive side. Can't wait for Moseley to get to UT, have a redshirt year, and enter the 2015 season with 1.5 years of Lawson's strength program, Martinez lessons on technique, and all the meat and potatoes he can eat.

Moseley is a huge project with great speed. But he will still be the smallest player on the team when he arrives. I think a 5.5 is almost accurate, but a 5.6 would probably be closer. I haven't seen 4 star talent ability out the kid so I can't really fault them for a 5.5 rating. He's very raw, has good size, and great speed. I think the criticisms are pretty natural.

One thing I really like about Moseley is that he's a winner and a team first guy. His team needed him to move over and play QB this fall and all he did was go undefeated and lead his team to a 4A state championship. We need more winners at UT.
