I think he plays on the outside the whole way. I think Payne, Gaulden, or possibly even Evan Berry (think he plays outside but could play nickel as well) could all be good nickel backs. But I'm no recruiting expert lol. I could have it completely backwards.

Doug Matthews said this morning he thinks Gaulden will play often and early at S and NB. Man I'm excited about our secondary in the years to come. Sutton, Mosely, maybe Evan Berry and HOPEFULLY Adoree on the outside. Randolph, McNeil, TKjr, Gaulden, McDowell at S and NB. Not sure if Payne would start off as outside CB or NB. THAT is the talent and speed that we have been needing!

Doug also said Maggitt and Reeves-Maybin at OLB next year along with some of the other incoming LBs will be legit. Also said one of the EE JUCO guys may not make it in and may get recruited over. Any ideas who that may be??

I like Doug Matthews, but is he any more connected than anyone else now that we are several years removed from Fulmer?

I believe he is. He was the first one to say Maggitt was going to redshirt back in the summer and people called him crazy.

Exactly my response.

I think he is wrong on the juco EE though. No way we are cutting one of those 4 loose

he's been around coaches, former players and donors for a long time. He can make a phone call this morning and find out more than anybody here. He just won't share it all on his show.
It just takes him too damn long to make a point. Drives me crazy.

I believe when he is referencing about them being fluid, that he is saying the JUCO guys tend to jump from school to school, as we have seen from example in the past. He is not saying that we might cut one of them loose. We want all five of the ones that we have committed.

Your version is much more believable.

The post I quoted said he said that one juco EE might be recruited over.

I posted that but it wasn't verbatim at all for what Doug said. He didn't state it matter-of-factly just sounded like one of the JUCO guys wasn't a sure thing, and he wasn't specific about why. And I did say "might" get recruited over, which implies speculation and that they also "might not" get recruited over.

I wouldn't want to cut loose any of the JUCO guys that are committed.

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't hear the interview and thought the recruiting over comment was his words. I assume he is talking about lambert

I should have been more clear in my original post. Honestly I didn't know exactly how to take what he said. If he meant that someone would decommit, be recruited over or what.

No way lambet gets recruited over. He is a day one starter IMO and a heck of a player.

Oh yes. Not what I was saying. The way i read posters comments that heard it, Mathews said one of the EEs juco kids was a shaky commitment. Lambert is the only one that even has a hint of being shaky IMO

He is a dynamic player. People keep saying Gaulden is the most underrated, but it probably is this guy.

Lock down corner should be a 4 star. Great kid and just a player with tremendous speed and quickness, and instincts as well. In state schools over here missed big time and tried to get back in. But hes all Vol!
