'14 KY DT Matt Elam

This guy needs to go to Arkansas. He could double as their mascot imo.

Seriously, I'm convinced that the only reason he is a 5 star on 247 is because Alabama offered him. Elam might be the most overrated recruit this cycle.

Totally agree

I've thought he was extremely overrated this whole time.

Whatever he did at Bama's camp he dominated.. but I agree he needs to get in shape.

BTW he delayed his announcement now and will visit Bama in Jan. I feel much better about our chances again.

I know you guys have always said you don't want him.. but if Saban wants him I do too!

Of course he will be a NG in 3-4 for us if we get him... we will see

Well, if they had him as a 3-4 nose at camp, that would make sense. That seems like it would fit him much better, similar to how Dan McCullers always looked better in the 3-4 than as a 4-3 DT.

The main issue most observers had with him is that he played too high. That can be fixed with good coaching. I don't see him as a 5star because he doesn't have scheme versatility. He is naturally strong and can push the pocket but if he expected to get to the QB or make lateral plays the coaches will be disappointed. He fits a 3-4 perfectly. He would be below average in a 4-3.

He definitely needs to clog the middle in a 3-4. He looked simply fat and slow in the Army AA game. Not impressed.

if he picks Bama, he needs to get down to about 340 to play NG. if he picks Kentucky, he needs to get down to about 315 then maybe he will be able to move around better to play in a 4-3

Yeah, with him now delaying his announcement and going to visit Bama again, I bet he has realized after this past week at the practices that he better rethink the D that he wants to play in.

Hope he does not end up at bama, do not need to face another cody. he does not look that good i agree but if you looked at cody he did not look that great either.

hope he stays home and picks kentucky.

i be honest i loved to have him in our class, he might be an project but might turn into a star

Old Wise One, bama has much better DL already in the fold that you should worry about. Not worried about Elam wherever he goes.

Bama offered him in February. He was rated as an 89 3 star in April. He didn't become a 5 star until June which was after he went to a few camps.

He is ranked high on 247 but the other major sites have him ranked 12, 24, 26 as a DT so it depends on which ranking you go by. He had a very good year on the field and dominated in camps but seemed to struggle in Army practices. I look at him as a mid to low 4 star mainly because of his limitations I mentioned in an earlier post.

Didn't he run a 5 flat or 5.1 40 at a summer camp? I think I read that this thread back during the summer.

That would be fast for him. He was the softest, flabbiest looking person on the field. He's got a long road of S&C ahead of him.
