'14 JUCO WR Lavon Pearson (UT SIGNEE 12/18/13)

Carter is a dependable player who is a great blocker and doesn't drop passes. But I agree, athletically he has no place seeing playing time for an SEC team. But I always appreciate the effort he gives.

Agreed with all. People busted my yams for saying DYoung doesn't deserve a scholly. I know what to expect from him in EVERY game: A few returns where he runs 10 yards and gets tackled, get's up and smacks ball. One or two returns that look decent, but finds a way to get tackled by the kicker or goes out of bounds, and last but not least, one play where he should down it in the end zone but brings it out and gets leveled at the eight yard line.

Damn. It's funny because it's true.

Hate to say it but your right. If he was a good returner then he would have a couple of scores by now. The real good ones only get kicked to once or twice a game. No fear in kicking to young. Seems like he tries hard, but he won't be returning kicks next year. I would like to see Wharton, or TKjr.

That's DYoung's thing, Matt Simms had the Pass-To-The-Ankles throw and Tauren Poole had the patented 2-Yards-Then-Dive move. Seriously though, I was hoping that Young was going to be a Dexter McCluster type player but unfortunately for him and the Vols it didn't pan out that way.

My thoughts:

North is the only true high caliber SEC talent at WR on the current roster. He has elite potential.

Pig is a good athlete, he seemed to fall off towards the end of the season some but I still feel comfortable with him being a serviceable to decent player at WR.

I'd keep Croom at WR. What he needs to work on his using his body to his advantage and playing more aggressively when the ball is in the air. He has talent but he's a major work in progress.

No clue what to think of Smith. He can get open but he sure cant catch. He's one of those who could go either way in the future, become a solid WR or get lost in the shuffle. A lot will depend on the type of talent they bring in at WR over the next few years.

Agree on Blanc and Carter.

I dont see it at all with Johnson. He is getting PT but that is because they dont have anyone else. I'm sorry but he's not an SEC level talent. Way too uncoordinated and runs horrible routes.

Devrin is not a WR or a RB. He just doesnt have a position at this level IMO. He's an ok punt returner and that is where all his focus should be.

What about Bowles? The fact he isn't getting on the field much as a WR this year has me questioning if he'll be the impact player most thought he would be.

It's been mentioned a few times, but I think Jenkins really has the opportunity to shine next year. Our only. I able option in the slot right now will be Pig. Somebody like Booth or Wharton might come in and set the world on fire, but Jenkins has a pretty easy path to locking down that second slot receiver spot for the start of the season IMO.

Kind of surprised we haven't tried Young at nickel back at some point.

Well, you want to see some funny stuff...check this out. You would think I was bad mouthing Neyland himself.

Don't know if any of the DY apologists are still around but would love to hear their thoughts now.

Man I say the exact same thing about D. Young not SEC talent. He really can't change field position for the better for us at all. Same thing with Josh Smith doesn't deserve a scholly at UT. UT has to stop offering every kid from Knoxville just because he's a fan.

Let's see...if the team we were playing had Devrin Young as their returner would you ever been worried? I sure as hell wouldn't. He isn't good. Vic Wharton will step on campus and be a better option next year.

You know what gets old?

Vols' "fans" bashing our football llayers...if you grew up a Vol fan and were offered a scholarship to play for UT, would you jump at the chance even though there are better players out there? Or would you say "Coach, I am honored by the offer, but please get someone better than me. The fans deserve better."

I know these players deserve better fans than a lot of the player bashers that post here. If they are "Giving their All for Tennessee", maybe the fans should appreciate that more.

The dooley players that quit, not so much...

Just a little tidbit here.

My friend was on a flight from Chicago with Pearson when Pearson flew in for his visit. Pearson and my friend talked a lot about UT and my buddy pumped up everything about UT. He said Lavon was so excited to visit. The big thing was Lavon was MOST excited about meeting Butch Jones.

Best quote: "I'm meeting Coach Jones for dessert."

You know what else gets old? Watching us lose year after year just on talent alone. The games rarely come down to coaching because we start out at a disadvantage when the ball is kicked.
