'14 JUCO WR Eric Lauderdale (previous UT commit)

never had the horses or OL to be pro-style from the jump. He still could have been a ball control running a spread/read option geared O. Most HS in Fla run some form of spread so the learning curve is smaller. Kids really have have to get bigger and stronger. Muskchump is clueless.

We agree on one thing for sure

Read that Muschamp said something like: Teams that run the spread\up tempo can't play defense.

Nice input makes sense and something I've never really thought about in terms of the HS offensive schemes in the area. Muschamp should have been running spread all along in that case.

Loss of Brent Pease doesn't affect juco WR Eric Lauderdale. Says #Gators are in his top 3 along with #ArizonaState. Unsure of third team.
Derek Tyson ESPN.

How do you have a top 3 but are unsure of the third team? Wouldn't that make it a top 2?

Normally. All the cool kids have a top three though. :)

That makes sense. By the way Freak, Volnation is in my top 2 internet websites but I'm unsure of who the other one is :) Thank you for this site. It is awesome.

No doubt your other favorite site starts with an x and ends in videos.

I think he really likes Tennessee, but after him deciding to take visits and then us immediately going and grabbing a commitment from maybe the only JUCO WR as good as or better than himself, he really doesn't have a spot here anymore.

Backup plan for a Malone miss IMO. Good player but not as valuable as other players for us

It feels good to be back in the position where we are able to pick the players we are wanting and having to turn away guys. We are like we will take you, Malone (hopefully) and Pearson and I guess due to numbers we will give you (Florida) Lauderdale. If we want him back though, we will just take him! :)

Just having the ability to turn players the caliber of Lauderdale shows how much CBJ has turned this program around. The fUTure is bright.

Correct me if Im wrong but you didnt hire him because of his offensive expertise....and I dont mean that to be ugly...firing the coaches he did today probably speaks volumes...

Correct, we have depth problems across the board to the point that one recruiting class no matter how big is going to resolve. It will be at least 2015 before we can have depth comparable to the upper part of the SEC. When you lose half of your class every year you just don't have depth. I want to get to the point where walkons and freshmen (unless they are spectacular) are not in the two deep at the beginning of the year.

That is a good point. Honestly, I am happy that some of these seniors are moving along. Tennessee has signed way too many 5-year occupying marginal, mop-up duty players over the last several years. Tennessee needs solid contributors. If they cannot see meaningful playing time by year 2, sign someone who will. Players like Greg King, Kenny Bynum, Crump, Propst, Carter, Blanc, etc... Where are they? You hardly ever see them, yet they hold a scholarship offer. Almost to say, "Hey we don't have anyone else better to take it so here ya go!"... Those days need to be over, and it looks like they are.

Carter was a walkon IIRC. earned his schollie because there were open spots left

Actually, LWSVol is of the opinion that “they would take both Lauderdale and Malone (post 7114 of http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-recruiting/134958-14-tn-wr-josh-malone-238.html).

In his weekly recruiting update (http://www.volnation.com/forum/tenn...0323-weekly-recruiting-update-11-25-12-a.html), PassedOutAwake added these nuggets pertaining to Lauderdale’s recruitment:

(1) “Tennessee is still recruiting Lauderdale and I think if Tennessee were to really press it would be the Gators and Vols. He's visiting Florida this weekend and is planning on visiting Tennessee in January. If the Vols get Malone I'm not sure how hard they go after Lauderdale." – Fortenberry

(2) I’ll probably take a few more official visits,” Lauderdale said. “I’ll probably take one to Tennessee, one to Arizona State and one to Washington, but I don’t have any of those set up. I was going to enroll in January but the SEC isn’t taking one of my classes so I’m going to enroll in May now.” GB 247

I get the impression that Butch is as relentless in his pursuit of offensive (and defensive) firepower as the Soviets were in the Cold War arms race. I really like that attitude.
