'14 JUCO DT Davonte Lambert (Auburn Commit 12/18/13)

Why is it always the damn JUCO d-linemen that we have to fight tooth and nail for?

Because the really good "plug and play" ones are always in high demand. I really don't understand why Aubbies wanting him so bad for though. Are they losing much at DT? Is Wright leaving or something?

Guys, honestly not trying to stir the nest. but here is what AU Rivals said after Lambert's visit -

The JUCO DT attended last night's game with teammate and Auburn commit Devaroe Lawrence. Lambert committed to Tennessee over Auburn and Florida in June, but he tells me that Auburn is still in the picture. He said the fans last night "showed a lot of love."

As I've reported before, Lambert's relationship with Garner is probably one of the strongest I've seen. He considers Garner a father like figure and has said multiple times he would love to be coached by him.

Lambert is still firm/solid to the Vols, but Auburn could make a strong push. He plans to graduate in December and enroll to the school of his choice in January.

ESPN Comparison:

"DT DaVonte Lambert (Georgia Military College) -- Will Sutton (Arizona State): We would not have used Sutton as a comparison had he not gained considerable weight this past offseason to move down inside for the Sun Devils. Lambert and Sutton display the same burst, first-step get-off and explosive motor to be disruptive against both the run and the pass. Lambert can play as an end or inside player, and Sutton has extensive experience in this role as well. Defensive linemen are expected to make an immediate impact, and Lambert should fit in quite well at Tennessee with the Vols' needs up front."

Ramblings...

If playing time is at the top of his list, UT will get the commit. I'm just wondering, if Garner is such a "father" figure to Lambert, then why did he not commit to Auburn as soon the offer came. He must have higher priorities, and hopefully he doesn't make emotional decisions. I could see how hard it could be especially after being at the Iron Bowl, that will go down as one of the best games in CFB and SEC history.

Lambert is a Vol. One of the main reasons why we landed him was because of the PT factor. He knows he will get a starting spot as soon as he steps on campus here.

This is how the game goes. Elite programs have to fight tooth and nail to beat other elite programs for elite players. Better get used to it.

Dooley was beating out Utep and UCONN for players. They get an offer from the likes of Tennessee they jump, it's over, they shut it down. Those days are over and quite frankly I'm glad.

Truth. Even Nick and the Bammer gang are having to fight off LSU and the Barn for recruits these days.

A few months back it seemed to make sense. Many guys seemed to be close to committing to UT in the spring/summer but still wanted to take other visits so they stayed uncommitted. Then once they committed they would shut it down, there would be quotes from them "I'm done with recruiting, no more visits, I'm solid to UT." But lately some kids are still taking visits so it doesn't look to be the case anymore. None of us really know the staffs policy on visiting other schools, it's all just speculation.

I still think it's a rule, but Butch made an exception for Jakob Johnson due to his situation. Remember, this kid just got to the States a few months ago. He's literally fresh off the boat and likely doesn't know much about American schools besides that they exist and that they have football. German universities don't work quite the same way they do here, as they're basically all considered equal from what I understand.

Probably not but he is about to get PAID $$$$$ no matter where he ends up.

I believe this as well, but I think they (Texas) makes a run at Malzahn. They probably would even if they kept Brown for one more year, it's not like Brown is getting another extension.

I seriously doubt that Gus is leaving Auburn anytime soon. He is happier at Auburn than a guy finding he won the lottery on Sunday morning.

Who knows, we may lose 5 games next year. But, I like our chances for another good year - lose 1 senior out of 25 contributors on offense and 6 seniors (3 starters) on defense.

No doubt a new contract is forthcoming. BTW, he has current annual incentives up to $2M and he currently has already pocketed $500K for winning season, season record, and SEC West Champion. The remainder could come in SEC Championship, SEC/national COTY, and national championship appearance/win.
