'14 IN SG Jaquan Lyle

Even if he doesn't pick us, I'm still going to have respect for him for telling the truth about UK basketball.

First off, simply based on how Cuonzo Martin spent his time, it looks like the Vols are going 'all in' with their pursuit of Evansville, Ind. Jaquan Lyle. Landing him is going to be a chore to say the least, but he's worth the effort no matter how things play out. A fantastic two-way player, Lyle is a fundamentally sound guard with the kind of upper body strength few guards his age can match. He can run a team, defend multiple positions at a high level and score the basketball.

Martin has made it a point to be a frequent courtside fixture at Lyle's games both in Los Angeles two weeks ago and again last week in Hampton, Va. The same could be said for Rick Pitino and Tom Crean though, which is part of the reason pulling Lyle will be quite the trick. Many think Louisville, which is just a two hour drive from his home, is in the driver's seat with Indiana clawing hard to get in the mix.

Make no mistake, I left my visit with Lyle last week feeling like Tennessee was a school he was serious about, and he confirmed they're squarely in his top six, but at the same time the Vols have some pretty obvious and significant obstacles to overcome.

Yeah I think it will come down to Us IU UofL and UCLA. Lyle is probably more talented than most of the IU guards right now so playing time wouldn't be a problem. UofL is a different story. Then he could come right in and play for us. So I'm hoping we are the choice.

JaQuan Lyle with a ridiculous 44 points as Spiece Indy Heat gets 79-67 win against Eric Gordon All-Stars. Eron Gordon with 29. #IUBB #Purdue

Telep loves him, excerpt from espn insider blog...

We'll start with Lyle, a 6-foot-4 guard who does a fair Zach Randolph impersonation in the second half of games. With his Spiece squad, Lyle has found a niche posting up smaller guards. What's cool about his habit of putting foes in paint jeopardy is that he's taking a liking to doing it with the game on the line in late-game situations.

I would say we've got as good a chance as anyone at this point.

IMO top 3 are Louisville, Indiana and Tennessee in no specific order.

If what you're saying is true and from all the guards Louisville will have in the next two years I like our chances. Us and IU 1/2 and UofL third. Just my guessing. I think CCM and depth at PG helps us a lot.

Why is he so interested in us (other than the obvious stuff)? I know the Jordan Cornish thing is helping.

Not BTO but we've been on him since freshman year Pearl was recruiting and I think Martin was at Missouri State. It just carried over. He has a pretty good relationship with Martin and he likes our style of play (hard to believe in some aspects)

He's somewhat of a rare case that he puts a lot of weight in his relationship with coaches. Kentucky came calling and he told them to get lost, not because they aren't a good program, but because he was actually offended that they thought they could jump in 2 years later than everyone else.

Something else that helps tremendously with elite recruits is playing time. Lyle would walk in here and be the starting PG from day 1, and have two very talented wings playing alongside of him, not many teams can offer that combination.

As SJA also touched on, he likes our style, he loves to play defense and it's why Martin has made him his #1 priority. We've seen Martin target defensive guys over scoring, (Richardson, Moore, Chievous etc), Lyle is his perfect recruit. Hard nosed, plays with an attitude, loves to defend, but the guy can also score.

I teach and coach in Indiana and everything I hear is UT and Louisville. Guys from southern IN are not locks for IU.
