First off, simply based on how Cuonzo Martin spent his time, it looks like the Vols are going 'all in' with their pursuit of Evansville, Ind. Jaquan Lyle. Landing him is going to be a chore to say the least, but he's worth the effort no matter how things play out. A fantastic two-way player, Lyle is a fundamentally sound guard with the kind of upper body strength few guards his age can match. He can run a team, defend multiple positions at a high level and score the basketball.
Martin has made it a point to be a frequent courtside fixture at Lyle's games both in Los Angeles two weeks ago and again last week in Hampton, Va. The same could be said for Rick Pitino and Tom Crean though, which is part of the reason pulling Lyle will be quite the trick. Many think Louisville, which is just a two hour drive from his home, is in the driver's seat with Indiana clawing hard to get in the mix.
Make no mistake, I left my visit with Lyle last week feeling like Tennessee was a school he was serious about, and he confirmed they're squarely in his top six, but at the same time the Vols have some pretty obvious and significant obstacles to overcome.
