'14 GA CB D.J. Smith

Y'all are crazy saying this doesn't matter. This kid is straight up one of the best CBs in this class, and on the heels of also falling off with Green, this isn't good.

I see your point but we are in on some very talented Dbs this year. As good or better. I wouldn't sweat it. We can only take 5, 6 at most.

Wonder if this has anything to do with McDowell, Lammons, and/or Battle giving the staff some good news?

If the report from Clemson 247 is accurate, then it probably has to do with something regarding other recruits. We are still in on a lot of DBs.

why wait til signing day if it's down to two schools?

also, if he is still high on our coaches boards then I think we can get back in it. It's effing June fellas!!!! :eek:hmy:

DJ wouldn't be affected by McDowell. They play two different positions. However, I wonder if we are about to receive some good news from Gaulden? Maybe he was higher on the board, because he is an in-state kid as well as someone that the staff likes at the cornerback position. Something will probably play out pretty quickly here.

I like your thinking there.:good!:

FWIW the Tennessee 247 guy thinks it's more that Clemson and SC have moved to the top of his list, rather than Tennessee being completely out of it, in large part because he hasn't been to Knoxville as recently. That said, he didn't talk to the guy, so who knows. And doubt he waits until NSD regardless.

Butch waits for no recruit.

I think people are discounting this. If a kid plans to wait till NSD, his chance of being a VOL is about 5%. The coaches are NOT going to hold a spot and or wait in hopes of landing recruits this cycle IMO. If your paying attention to how recruiting is going this year, it's make your decision or we are moving on w/out you. "The staff will wait for him, he's a 4*". I don't think it's playing out that way.

This is what I was thinking. Gaulden needs to pull it.

While Tennessee had a good number of top prospects on campus last week the Vols made a big statement by having in a large number of really good prospects from the state of Florida.

The list was impressive as Travonte Valentine, Chris Lammons, TJ Harrell, John Battle, Lammont Simmons and obviously Brandon Powell, who committed to the Vols.

Tennessee impressed Valentine and will continue to be a factor there and really helped themselves with defensive backs Simmons, Harrell and Battle. The Vols are in the top two with Virginia Tech for Simmons, are in the top three for Harrell, who could play a number of positions and are very high for Battle. We were told Battles' parents were very impressed with Tennessee as well and the Vols are going to be a player for him.

It feels nice that we are in on a lot of other prospects, but getting dropped by one of his caliber isn't a good thing. We also shouldn't assume someone else committed silently or whatever and that's the reason UT is out of the mix.

This is why I think the comment from Smith have to do with UT and other recruits. Guys like McDowell, Truitt, Smith, and Green had UT at the top of their lists, but never committed. Next thing you know, UT is at the top of the list for four more recruits, at the same position and of the same caliber. I think the connection here is that CBJ and the staff work their tails off in recruiting these guys. If they don't respond or get back to campus, the staff seems to move on.

That's what I'll go by until proven otherwise.

I agree
What was Smiths comments? Must have missed it.

We must have cooled off on this guy. I guess the staff feels like they like some of the Florida corners better.

I'm pumped we're in it for other great CBs as well, and I'll be happy with the ones we get. But this kid is top 5 in the country imo.
