I hope you are right, but I have been hearing this same song for years now and each class I have been unimpressed.

Well the last 3 - 4 years we've had top 15 classes. Whats not to be impressed about. We just lack coaching! We have players.

Because I feel we need top 10. How far back did we rank in the SEC with those classes?

To get top 10 classes, we have to win. Several big name recruits would have already picked UT had we showed alot of improvement on the field and won a game like a UGA, UF, or USCe. Recruits are looking for a reason to think UT is getting back to playing for titles. Once they see that, recruiting will take a huge upswing. That is why I am not expecting a top 10 or even top 20 class this year. Kids need to see the product on the field to buy into what the coaches are selling. If CBJ can get us into the top 25 is recruiting classes, he has done a great job. Just not alot of time to build trust.

Doesn't matter, how far back to Louisville rank?

For that matter, how high has Arkansas or South Carolina ever ranked? They've won consistently in recent years with classes outside the top 10.

I think Georgia is the only team to be in the Rivals top 10each of the last 8 or 10 years or so and how many championships do they have to show for it?

You need talent, definitely. But you need good coaching. I think we finally have both.

I need some Florida guys to confirm or deny that Bates is a top 5 LB in the state for next year's class. I've heard both sides.

I could see him being a Top 5 guy on Scout or ESPN but not 247. Has the size you want at LB but I haven't seen anything in his film that just jumps out "top lb" atp.

Let's get some commits first.

We already have our 1st commit for 2014 (who is already a 4 star on Rivals), which is great considering that the the new staff has been here for such a short amount of time. I'm with OCI on this one, this class will end up as one of the best in the nation. I cant believe how many former Vols have kids in this one class. I hope we can get all of them, that class has the potential to be the one that brings us back to where we should be.

Quote by Dallas Jackson at the combine....

"Dylan Bates has looked sensational in one-on-one.

You dont see a LB standout in this format but he has been killing it."

Then a couple of posts later he comes back with this...."Stop me if you heard this before: Dillon Bates is killing it linebacker"

They also posted in the thread that he had a vertical jump of over 35 inches and posted a 4.7 forty on what the analysts say is a very slow track. The best forty time in that group was 4.6.

"I got a lot of my mentality from my dad," Dillon Bates said. "I take his mentality to the field. Mr. Irvin tells me about how tough my dad used to be, and we watch his old highlights -- we have them on a DVD and they are old and in black and white -- I try to take that style and bring it to games with me."

And when the subject of "being like dad" comes up, the most generic question is raised. Will Dillon Bates eventually pull a Bill Bates and carve out a niche at the University of Tennessee?

"It makes it appealing,"
Dillon said. "And we have family in Knoxville still, so that's a big thing. It's on the list of schools that I really want to get to for junior days and all that stuff. But I'm going to check out other schools, too. Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Ohio State …a bunch of others. I just really want to weigh my options and see what's the best fit for me."

Bates, the son of three-time Super Bowl champion and former Cowboys safety Bill Bates, was especially dominant during one-on-one drills, a difficult task for any linebacker against speedy running backs running right at him.

The four-star prospect will have many options in recruiting. His father played at Tennessee, and Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Ohio State have been mentioned.
Surely, SEC and ACC schools closer to home will get involved, especially after hearing reports of Bates from the Army Combine.

"Bates had an amazing combine working out as a linebacker," Rivals.com national analyst Mike Farrell said. "You can tell his coverage skills in space from playing safety translate closer to the line of scrimmage, but his instincts are what separate him. He has a feel for the game and for what his opponent is going to do, and he jumps routes and closes on the ball as well as anybody.

"He had a near interception on his first rep, a pick on the second I saw, and after that there were many pass breakups. He has the bloodlines, of course, and maybe that's where the instincts come from, but he also has a great frame, good speed, and a year from now he'll be a good-size linebacker who can cover wideouts."

Your statement gets posted fairly often relative to key recruits, but it can be viewed in a much different context when posted by a female. :)

:birgits_giggle: Haha whoops I guess I need to rephrase that. I want this kid to be a Vol badly
