DEERFIELD BEACH After Deerfield Beach's 2012 football season ended, running back Brandon "BP" Powell said, he started working with local trainer Tony Sands on his speed.
Most mornings before school, they met at 4:30 a.m. at Fort Lauderdale's Carter Park and focused on improving his explosiveness on his starts.
Consequently, Powell and Deerfield Beach coach Allen Jackson noted, his time in the 40-yard dash has dropped from the 4.5s last season to 4.4 this spring. Powell said he is working toward getting down to 4.3.
"I was thinking too much last year. But now this year I've gotten faster and stronger and I'm just hitting the holes quicker and everything," Powell said.
