'14 F VA Jabari McGhee (UT commit 5/2/14)

Well, actually, it's more of a school where players go who haven't got the grades or whatever to get into the college where they want to play. It's not like they go there because they're desperate to be in JROTC.

McGhee was fully qualified coming out of high school and had committed to Auburn but chose to go to Hargrave to try and improve his fortunes. He's now at Tennessee, so it worked.

I agree Callipari, Donavaan, Pearl, The rest of the Sec. All are a bunch of idiots. Donnie Basketball can take 2 star recruits and win championships. Never has come close before. But I'm with the rest of you guys. He's the best coach evah!!!! evah!!! evah!!!

I didn't post any of that. I said this kid will have a better first year than 90% of Martin's recruits did. If you don't agree, then give a reason why he won't.

Thanks. :hi:

"Improving fortunes" was what I was incoherently trying to describe when I wrote "or whatever." If I understand correctly, it's a good place for tuning up skills? improve visibility? --something like that, to wind up in a better college basketball situation.

I think you need to watch the video on their website, "A Day in the Life of a Hargrave cadet in 5 minutes!"

We're talking about b'ball players who go there for a year, not someone who does their entire HS or whatever there. Wow, you're argumentative...

btw, I'm a grown-up Army brat, my father and uncle were both 100% sc and died of their sc conditions, and I work with veterans. Please don't peg me as some sort of anti-military person. You seem to have a bit of a chip on your shoulder in this area; hope you will excuse my saying so.

Heard an interview today on Seth Stokes radio show and the guy being interviewed mentioned that Hargrave's coach knows Jabari is listed at 6'8, but said he has grown and now is almost 6'10. This makes him a much nicer option if this is he case.

So you don't think a year at Hargrave builds character? The regimen is the same. Basic training is only a few weeks and boys turn into men. Trust me i've trained thousands!

Also, I saw the UT release about him and CDT listed him at 6'8 1/2. If that's his height bare feet then he really is closer to 6'10 in shoes.

Don't think that's true, UT listed him officially at 6'8.5" 225lbs and as we all know they tend to exaggerate not undersell.

There are 6'8 guys that play like they are 6'4 and 6'8 guys that play bigger and taller.

Absolutely. He played at 6'6"-6'7" in high school and at Hargrave, and was a rebounding monster. The constant you hear about McGhee is he plays bigger than what he's listed.

Like I said when he committed, this maybe over simplifying his game, but I see Armani Moore 2-3 inches taller. Armani plays bigger than 6'5", McGhee plays bigger than 6'8", but there's nothing wrong with his height at the 4.

The other big difference between McGhee and Reese is that McGhee had impressive production. Pretty sure Reese didn't even average 10 ppg in high school.

Nah. You can teach discipline. Life experience builds character.

You've mentioned Reese having similar offers.

This was Reese's actual offers.

Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Florida Gulf Coast, North Florida, Rider, Youngstown State, James Madison, UCF, Murray State and Tennessee.

McGhee's offers.

Auburn, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Georgia, Tennessee, Western Kentucky, Florida Gulf Coast, Seton Hall, and Marshall.

From his 247 commitment blurb.

Being offered by approximately 40% of the SEC is slightly above Reese's offers from 1 high major, us. But I'm sure you probably know more than the guys who do this for a living. What with all your inside sources. Like how you were talking about Tennessee slow playing him and letting this drag out a week about 3 hours before his commitment was announced.
Reese was recruited higher than that.

Other schools recruiting Reese included Central Florida, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Tulane and Virginia Tech.

Reese said his final four came down to the Vols, UCF, James Madison and Georgia Southern. Recruiting analysts have indicated Boston College, Wake Forest and Ole Miss were also involved.
