'14 F VA Jabari McGhee (UT commit 5/2/14)

Height? He is a 6'6 Power Forward? Doesn't scream Giant in my opinion. I could be wrong, just know Duke, KU, Kentucky, Florida put their 6'6 players at Guard!

Heard he was 6'7. Yes he's listed at a PF, but in college I don't see him playing that role as much.

He runs the court well and is very athletic. He should fit into CDT's system.

Just heard his interview. If he plays like he talks we are in for a treat. Great personality!!

How possible is that this year? How many are left on the board that do not fall into the Thug category or grades that fit his system.

Just Asking.

Why dismantle your whole recruiting class if this what's left. This guy is a poor mans Cofer.

just as I finish up speaking with new #Vols hoops commit Jabari McGhee, Tennessee announces he's signed with the program.

I agree. Reese seems very labored in his movements. His shot, passes, drives all feel like they take forever to complete.
I guess quick isn't the word, but he isn't slow and seems to have good reactions for being 6'8. Reese's game can't be admired during one game or the stat sheet, you have to value his hard work on and off the court. Just my opinion from watching him this season.

Completely unbiased opinion of course.

Cliches typically reserved for players who aren't very good.

Lol...such a convenient tactic to play the sarcasm card when you try (and fail) to nail someone on a grammatical error and make one yourself.

Just admit you goofed...actually, I don't even care.

You don't have to be right all the time. It's actually a pretty admirable quality to be able to admit when you're wrong.

No kidding. I goofed when I wrote "you're". And it kills me because I'm a stickler for grammar and hate seeing people mess up you're and your/to and too. Oh well, I ain't perfect. Don't pretend to be.

This kid has some awesome athleticism, but he is really raw. I think he'll develop into a solid player with some fundamentals and coaching.

I thought you were talking about me when you were referring to "boobcat" :hi:

Lol. No, just one of my stalkers that spends way too much time and effort trying to 'one up' me on an anonymous message board forum.

This kid will have a more productive first year than all of our recruits the last 3 years outside of Stokes.
Just a guess.

I agree Callipari, Donavaan, Pearl, The rest of the Sec. All are a bunch of idiots. Donnie Basketball can take 2 star recruits and win championships. Never has come close before. But I'm with the rest of you guys. He's the best coach evah!!!! evah!!! evah!!!

This thread certainly was entertaining. Quite a troll job by BTZo. The Galen Campbell scoring comparisons were certainly hilarious. Cause Galen Campbell is a 6'7/6'8 220 pounder.

Further, lots of players can score in high school, but that just makes the ones that can't look even worse.

Besides, Zo's most baffling recruiting happened in year two and three. Pop's is the most ridiculous offer we've possibly ever put out. A juco guy who barely played and averaged 2 points and 2 boards for game. He's managed to average less than half that here. If you're going the juco route, you really need to find something better than that.

But of course his worst recruiting job was the absolute lack of true posts. Landed Stokes and then nothing, so we're left with starting either freshmen, Pops or someone playing way out of position in the post.

His other baffling recruiting trait was, of course, signing players that seemed to be built for exactly the opposite stuff he liked to run. A bunch of 6'5-6'7 athletes for a slow down, grind it out half court system. No shooters, no bangers down low. I guess he either planned to bail early on or just hoped Stokes and Maymon would somehow be here forever.

Solid and truthful post. The Pops recruitment was typical Counzo. His recruiting strategy was to take the first person who said "yes."

No doubt in my mind that UT is better off today than it was a few weeks ago.

The multiple SEC offers is where you're wrong, that's simply false. Like I've said, look at his OV's...

You've mentioned Reese having similar offers.

This was Reese's actual offers.

Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Florida Gulf Coast, North Florida, Rider, Youngstown State, James Madison, UCF, Murray State and Tennessee.

McGhee's offers.

Auburn, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Georgia, Tennessee, Western Kentucky, Florida Gulf Coast, Seton Hall, and Marshall.

From his 247 commitment blurb.

2014 Three-star forward Jabari McGhee of Hargrave Military Academy has officially committed to the University of Tennessee to play for new head coach Donnie Tyndall. McGhee, a 6-8, 195-pounder from Albany, Ga. is the first commit for the Vols since Tyndall took over as head coach on April 22.
McGhee had offers from four other SEC schools in Auburn, Georgia, Ole Miss and South Carolina.

Being offered by approximately 40% of the SEC is slightly above Reese's offers from 1 high major, us. But I'm sure you probably know more than the guys who do this for a living. What with all your inside sources. Like how you were talking about Tennessee slow playing him and letting this drag out a week about 3 hours before his commitment was announced.

Well, actually, it's more of a school where players go who haven't got the grades or whatever to get into the college where they want to play. It's not like they go there because they're desperate to be in JROTC.
