Jeremy Crabtree, senior writer for ESPN's RecruitingNation answering a question that I asked about Adoree Jackson during his reddit AMA:

What do you believe Tennessee's chances are with Adoree Jackson? And who do you think he ends up selecting?

The Vols certainly aren't going to go away with Jackson, and they're trying to sell him on the football track combination.
People have kind of overlooked that with him, but the schools targeting him know that track is just as important as the football side of things.
However, there might not be a target who is more difficult to read than Jackson. With four visits under his belt, things seem to be as up in the air as ever for the five-star cornerback. Florida, Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame, Oregon, Tennessee and USC all remain in the running for Jackson, but this is the kind of talent who could move a class an entire position or two in the final ranking.

Nothing we didn't really already know, but still pretty cool an ESPN personality answered one of my questions.

He seems to believe we are right in the thick of things for him. :loco:

Justin Gatlin came here as a hurdler. UT track coaches saw his potential was as a sprinter and trained him as 100m sprinter. THAT is important because out of all Track and Field events the 100m sprint is the most prestigious event. When Usain Bolt was younger his coach would not let him run the event at first - he had to earn his way into that event.

In all of the Summer Olympics, 100m sprint is *the* event.

Another great move by Mike Hamilton. He combined the mens and womens track programs and put the womens coach in charge of all of it. He pays little attention to the mens side and fired a respected coach. A couple of world class sprinters left the program (one after freshman year) and they either can't or don't recruit top athletes any longer for the mens side.

Hamilton could not have destroyed the UT athletic dept any better if that had been his stated purpose.

How so? He's consolidating the athletic department and removing redundant positions. Given the department's financial health, it seems like these changes were long overdue.

He is trying to destroy the women's athletic brand, run the Weekly's off, etc. etc. etc.

Full disclosure, I know JJ and my wife ran for UT when he was there. JJ is a really good position coach. He really understands the science of running, which I don't believe many do. He is also very likeble and I believe recruits connect with him. He could be a good head coach. Here is what I believe:

1) The former men's coaches you mention were burned out for many reasons that I will not discuss in a public forum. This affects recruiting.
2) Position coaches have not worked out for JJ for reasons not to be discussed in a public forum. This affects recruiting.

Ultimately the buck stops with JJ and they have not won enough. I really like him and hope he gets to winning because you just never know how long till someone decides to cut him loose. I think combining the teams was a bad move as men and women usually respond to different coaching styles and the additional people to manage is a lot to undertake. FYI: I really dislike what Mike Hamilton did to our athletic programs.

Unfortunately this is absolutely true about Hart. With separate monetary funds/coaches we were able to pursue excellence in many sports and it was much easier to identify when one program or another was having funds shifted or getting done dirty.

As to the prior poster mentioning how Hammy put the LV coach in charge of the men's track team, I'd just clarify there was nothing wrong per se with putting the LV track coach in charge of the men. At that time we were good at both. The problem is that the coach was in charge of two teams at once! That simply wouldn't happen in football, basketball, or softball/baseball.

We've had big name golfers and swimmers/divers too but the AD simply doesn't care.

I just talked to a co-worker who talked to a source that said he's hearing Jackson is very serious about Florida and LSU and that the five-star will probably end up at one of those schools.

This continues to be important because it validates the whispers I've been hearing for months - that Jackson is very serious about his track career and wants to be in the Olympics and that he feels those two programs might help him achieve those goals while also being at a football power.

Jackson really isn't talking much and will probably be radio silent until the Under Armour game but I'll try to pick his brain once I get down in Orlando next week.

I've also heard Tennessee, FSU and USC as legit options for him.

Dang. It sucks that he is still considering UF even though its a train wreck. Any word if Vols get another visit? Hopefully Butch can throw some Hot Sauce on him.

I just dont see where the 3 extra wins would come from. Possibly GA and Possibly Vandy, but our other losses were beatdowns and he wouldn't have made much difference in winning or losing the others.

Justin Hunter jumped 26'5 his freshman year and went on to pursue fball. Adoree is 5'10 max and jumps 25 feet. That is impressive, and he has great runway speed, but he won't be a gold medal contender at his size. JH had legitimate gold medal potential and he chose football because that is where the money is. Not sure why Adoree is getting sold a bill of goods on being a track star when he can be a top 10 pick at DB with return man skills and make a lot more money, and not have to resort to PED's.
