18 year olds get fired everyday in the workforce for not pulling there weight. Why should an athlete get a pass? They are not an asset to the company just like that football player that is told to take a medical RS or go elsewhere is not an asset to the football team. Thats a fact of life, its not even an opinion. We just can agree to disagree.

A coach's job is to do his due diligence, and carefully select the players to represent the program. If a kid fails, a huge part of the onus for that failure is on the coach. The coach should not be allowed to just shrug off any dead weight, it's his duty to do anything possible to help that young man succeed. To do anything less is a failure as a coach, and just pure greed.

If a young man is making the grades to stay in school, his scholarship should be honored. If a football coach "wasted" a scholarship on a player, that is on the coach for using poor judgement.

NCAA football is not a workplace, as you like to refer to it. It is a sport played by students.

When the NCAA starts requiring football programs to actually recruit students we can talk, but right now being a student is not a requirement or else the sliding scale and exemptions that are being used would not be allowed.

Probably the single dumbest thing I've read in a month on this site, and that is saying something. Sliding scale or not, these are student athletes playing an amateur sport, being shrugged off by coaches because said coaches can't seem to do what they are actually paid to do.

There is no risk that falls on the coach when they can just cut a kid on a whim, so I'm not sure where you are coming from with this line of reasoning. If there is legitimate injuries then that is one thing, but lets be honest here, this is roster attrition because the coach doesn't want to have to deal with his mistake, or put forth the effort to develop the talent he selected.

A little naive there but that is alright. And in regards to UA they get their degree so they are treated like students. Yes maybe via medical hardship but unlike the other UT fan that said just release them I will take what UA does over kicking them to the curb.

For anyone that thinks the SEC is all about student first football second might want to do a little research.

According to a new damning report by the Delta Cost Project at the American Institutes for Research, the universities in the SEC in 2010 spent a median of $163,931 per athlete versus $13,390 per student for academic programs. The SEC spent 60 percent more on its jocks than the PAC-10, (now the PAC-12) and 40 percent more than the Big Ten schools.

They are not recruited to be scholars. I am not saying that I agree with it one bit but I am a realist.

CP agrees with this statement.

Who cares at least talk football. All these people need to realize football players are on a "football" scholarship. Perform or go home at the top tier programs. Nature of the game.

Now back to Rock. Kid put on a show in his first 7 on 7 game. Displayed great footwork that makes him very special as a back.

If Rock commits within a week I'm going to run out if booms lol. Coleman, then TK2, then Cream, then Lee's ACT score. Wow what a last few days.

Coaches are getting fired at the highest rate ever and there is more pressure to win. They want to stay employed. Telling a player that he isnt cutting it and is about to be replaced is far from being unethical because if thats the case every industry in world is unethical

Do a university allow a student to keep their scholarship if they arent making the grade? No , they take the scholarship and pretty much tell the student to find the funds or go somewhere. Why shouldnt a coach be allowed to do the same thing?

If coaches wanted to, they could tell the kids that they are taking their scholarship and they need to pay their own way or transfer. At least with a medical RS you have are able to stay on scholarship. Some people overlook that fact. Its funny how none of the players have went forward with lawsuits because they think its wrong. They dont because they still end up going to school free and graduating.

I still here Bama around here, but I have a bad feeling right that he ends up at Auburn, some people are pushing him that way.

I asked Allan Carson about him and he said he is one of the most athletic kids he has ever seen. He also said he didn't get the nickname "Rock" until around the time he blew up in recruiting.

He's been Rock since his freshman year. The announcers were even saying it. Check the Carson thread that's when I first posted about him.

Expected back in town this weekend per VQ. That's twice in a month. Or did he not make it to the 2/16 junior day?

Do you think there is any chance we can convince Hurd, Paulk, and Thomas to come to UT?

That would give us some nice depth. Add to Marlin Lane, Jabo Lee and that's 5 quality backs.

And yes, I know I forgot Alden Hill and Tom Smith. But I don't see them producing for us.
