'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

Sounds like a lot of posters need to take their Michigan boners somewhere else.. Recruits read this crap.

Dude, i love snowboarding and i used to play hockey, so i like lots of snow and enjoy the winter...

Guess i have a Michigan boner and am swaying recruits to UM on a message board... smdh.

You don't see him breaking away enough in order to see him get caught from behind.

I think he will be a very good back. I don't think he will be a home run threat.

Do you all see him breaking a 60 yard TD run? I can definitely think he will be a bruiser and a hard runner in between the tackles but just judging from his highlights I don't see the speed.

I see what you're saying. I've watched the highlights. He doesn't seem like a 4.35 but I bet that when he gets open field he isn't really ever caught. However, he doesn't have that "quick-flashy" speed. Which is sometimes a good thing, because there is less dancing and more pounding and more quality carries. He seems like a back who will get 5 to 6 yards a carry. While he might not make Mark Ingram or Reggie Bush type scores, he will be making Travis Henry plays (hopefully).

He's the type of back I'd feel good about putting in on 3rd and 1 to get the first down. I haven't felt confident about that in a long time.

If he saw AJ Johnson running for us last year and scoring all those td's, u would think that would make it even more tempting.. We've needed a back like him for a while.

Haha I guess besides AJ we haven't had anyone, but damn, he's a starting middle linebacker... Talk about open opportunity for playing time.

From Rivals -

This position is very top heavy and there are many top running back candidates behind the five-stars. However, I think in the end it comes down to Derrick Green, Greg Bryant (Notre Dame commitment), Thomas Tyner (Oregon) and Altee Tenpenny (Alabama) at Army and Ty Isaac (USC) and Kelvin Taylor (Florida) at Under Armour. Running backs don't often have breakout games in these all-star settings because there are only so many carries to go around. That makes practice, scrimmage and the little things like willingness to block much more important. Green has the edge going in, but it's a close battle right now between all of them, and you can't forget Taquan Mizzell (Virginia), who is the No. 1 all-purpose back in the country and a five-star as well. These games are built more for speed and guys who are effective in the spread so Green will need to go hard from Day 1 in every aspect to keep his top spot and hold off flashier guys in space such as Bryant and Tyner. I think Green comes out, runs over a lot of people with anger in practice and in the game, and blocks like that No. 1 title is on the line and emerges unscathed.

If we are 50/50 against Michigan, I'll take those odds. At least he doesn't torture us in the SEC if we miss.
