'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

Well--just check out his carries against SEC teams for reference...How many wide runs did he have where he beat them to the corner? Weren't LBs running him down? I think he is a good kid, but he's extremely small and PIG looks better....

It's just an opinion from the few plays he had...not begging folks to agree...but Q definitely ain't the small, fast guys that Fla has had in the past. That's all I'm trying to say....not dissing on the kid....he may look faster next year after a year of S&C training. :salute:

I agree.

I never thought he was someone who should have been signed. Hope he proves me wrong, he's got 3 more years.

Poor reference point, IMO. I saw on about 3-4 carries where he had a hole, and took off. Those plays, as well as in the open field test speed, not when he gets killed in the backfield, or rushes for a couple

you can find anyone to run thru Big holes. when there were creases on the his carries after big runs, he did nothing and either got stopped for No gain or loss.

a guy like Isiah Pead who excelled at Cinci was more than a speed guy. he had instincts, pressed the LOS to create cutback lanes and ran with power thru arm tackles

Did Q have a big enough sample size to say one way or the other? I say no. If we stayed with a power running style, I would agree that he would be out of place. If we are going to a spread, it helps him out.

He was getting chased down by LBs because basically every time he got the ball the play was blown up in the backfield

Darren sproles disagrees....RBs can run....no matter the system

Dawson recommitted to Michigan and now everyone is saying that helps Mich with Green. Are those 2 friends? Or is it just Mich getting another good OL? Anyone know?

A. Why do we always pick one person that goes against the grain.

B. There are plenty of specialty backs that are good at somethings, but not all. Q is a speed demon. Get him in space.

C. All I did was point out what Q can do and how he can help us.

He's going to be here 3 more years, might as well utilize the kid.

i agree....he reminds me a lot of sproles so that was my comparison..small, quick, and a lot of power for his size....he wouldve been fine in the last system just hard to run when youre getting met by 3 guys behind the LOS

There were some issues with his vision, seeing the right holes and cutbacks at times, but in terms of burst, I felt he had it, and moved there in a hurry. Of course there is much more to being a runningback, but the point I was arguing was "on the field speed." We'll see if he can develop and hold up between the tackles :hi:

This only my second post, so don't kill me, but I'm sitting here watching the Florida high school state finals and this kid from cypress bay is tearing it up. I think his name is Matt Dayes. He seems to have good vision, power, and can run away from guys in the open space. Anybody have any info on him. Doesn't seem to have a great offer list, but right now he looks like a man out there against Apopka.

I saw part of that game too and your right that Dayes kid is great. Will be a solid player.

He probably won't be a running back man. He's outgrowing the position. And regardless you take a rb every class. Forgetting Green would be completely stupid.

I think it was stupid missing on Turman and other RB's while we waited on Henry and Green to decide. It all may work out in the end, but with our luck of late I would not count on it.

Forget about green.....wait until 2014 and do ANYTHING possible to get J.H. from Beech HS!!!!

Dumbest post of the year. Yeah let's pass on #1 rb in country that we are tied for lead for on the hope if pulling a kid we aren't in the top 5 for right now. You take both not either or

Everytime he lines up behind the QB he always starts leaning forward right before the snap. I know its a minor thing but a D-coordinator could pick up on that. I'm sure CJG can address it though. Also wonder if that would change how quickly he hits the hole?
