'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

Wow, with this kind of defeatism from our current players, AU will be extremely lucky to have any resemblance of a decent recruiting class, much less competing for headliners like Green. This is a summary of quotes from RS receiver Sammy Coates via twitter world.

"We have to get our team together. We have some of the best athletes anyone could ask for."

"We just have to get it in our hearts. The leadership's got to come from somewhere. Everybody's talking about how they want to win, but nobody's showing us how to win."

"We don't have leadership. Everybody talks about wanting to win, but we don't have the leadership to win."
"We just keep falling in a hole. People keep doubting us."

"More on leadership: "They (coaches) put it on the older guys, but they don't show much. You don't see it. You talk about how you want to be a better man and a better football player, but nobody's stepping up to the plate taking advantage of that."

"Even more on what he wants from a leader: "Sometimes we go out there and we're dead. Nobody puts their foot down that they really want to win. It all starts at practice. If we go out there today dead, we won't have that energy."

"Coaches told players need to man up "or are we going to stop bending over and letting them run all over us?"
On if Kiehl or Clint is more vocal: "They talk, but they don't talk enough. The coaches ... aren't out there playing with us."

We've been told by negavols over in the FF that this kind of stuff is a sunshine pumping excuse defending Dooley and company. So tweet him back and tell him to stop making excuses...sincerely Negavols :loco:

That last little jab at us from Mike Farrell is a joke. How can an analyst (and not a very good one IMO) make that opinionated comment? That is in there to give negative attention to TN. That's on a national site which lots of kids read... It isn't enough that opposing teams are putting this crap into the minds of recruits, but he has to go throw gas on the fire with that crap journalism. One of the many reasons I go to 247 now for info. Rivals has become a joke.

I get that our ignorant and delusional fanbase is calling for Dooley's head everytime he doesn't win a big game, but someone who is supposed to know something about football to write something like that which will be read by several kids who may consider coming here? Cmon.
So insted of solving our problem by replacing Dooley we'll just whine about the national media and watch the elite prospects continue to go elsewhere. Brilliant stuff.

Do you guys just not get it? Getting rid of Dooley now could possibly be the worst thing to happen to this program since Kiffin pulled his little stunt.

Where's that facepalm smiley at?

To clarify, I'm not of the opinion that what he said was completely false, there may indeed be heat on Dooley's chair. My beef with it comes from the fact that nowhere other than media speculation (and the Gruden thread/FF in general) is there any sniff of this actually being the case. No one from Hart or anyone else has EVER publicly stated Dooley is running out of rope. For him to suggest it in an article about a recruit to me is BS considering all the variables. Who is he to put that rumor out there or perpetuate it?

Edit: Unless you work for Bleacher Report. In that case, no rules apply.

Hart could end all the speculation today with a contract extension that pushes the $5 million buyout figure out to 2014. The fact that nothing like that has happened, not even a meaningless extension of years without changing the buyout, feeds into the perception.

dogging the current HC with bs info in a recruits thread is awesome. What great support of the program shown, than for a recruit or his mom to read up on what's going on at UT and his name and see bs like this.

Ridiculous guise of "program" support shown again.

Maybe you should read the prior page or two in the thread to see how the discussion evolved.

Also, are they recruits before they commit? Or just prospects? Or both?

I agree. I can't figure it out, why is it even discussed?! The man has years left on his deal - as in plural! He is not going anywhere! Every single year the talent and competitiveness has improved including this year, it is trending upwards. There is not nearly enough of the bolded word in your post and this is coming from fellow VOLS!

Look at how this class has the potential to finish and tell me we aren't going to compete for the east title in '13/'14/'15.

rationalize it however you wish. You and others still claim to support the program, yet this **** is in a recruits thread.
You know what recruits do? They look at their threads.

Obviously, this kid is thinking heavily about playing for the current HC, which is Dooley. Yet we have some of the same clowns discussing firing him or whatever. If a player is thinking about playing for Dooley, who is going to be here next year, how in the hell can your spouting off that DD doesn't need to be here, is done, sucks or whatever, support the "program" in any form or fashion.

Notice, that wasn't a question.

Talent - Rivals recruiting ranking 2010 #9, 2011 #13, 2012 #17, 2013 currently #21. We're going the wrong direction. It's baby steps, but it's the wrong way.

Competitiveness - We gave up against UF but not against UGA. I guess the jury is still out.

Now, I personally think it is much more likely than not that Dooley will be here in 2013 and there's no doubt that a fantastic RB like D. Green would be a great asset at UTK.

Please quote the post in THIS thread where I stated that Dooley is done. We were discussing a Rivals item pertaining to D. Green. You need to relax.

One way to measure it sure, but I prefer to use my eyes. Which shows me a competitive team that is miles ahead of recent years and capable of winning nearly every game IMO despite some obvious holes that need fixin - starting with a game changing RB - Derrick Green.

Normally, I wouldn't beetch about the direction a thread goes but this is hands down our most important recruit. Probably our most important in the last 5 years honestly. Can you guys pick this up in the football thread in this forum? I would hate to think Green could read this at some point. Just my 2 cents.

I think IF we can beat a USCjr or BAMA then I think you will start hearing the exention talk "leaked" out. He may even just come out and say Dooley is here next year. I do think he is waiting for that "signature" win to come first. IMO

He's under contract. An extension isn't really necessary at this point. He just needs a public endorsement stating he is the coach for the future.

I agree with you that right now, this team appears to be a RB and a few DBs away from greatness. I don't know what the roster will be next year, but getting someone of Green's skill level would be huge any year.
