Sounds like you're describing progress of a pee wee football team. I've literally seen a middle school team this year not miss extra points in 4/5 games. So what does that say about our "progress?"

I agree completely. Problem is, Mizzou is playing some of the most uninspired football I've seen them play since Pinkel has been there. They were fired up and were beating UGA for 3 1/2 quarters (then Jarvis Jones decided to show up). A month later, they are losing, at home, to Vandy. They keep this up, and there is NO WAY they come into Neyland and walk out with a W.

Honestly, before the season started I had my eye on this game because I really thought that team would be playing inspired, passionate football. We all saw that vs UGA, but it's like after that loss, wind left the sails and they are struggling. Things don't get easier for them either with Alabama up next...

If we get Green, it's an SEC balance of power changer. With all due respect to Rajion, our running game doesn't scare anyone. Our huge O line, with Green = big time running.

Neal and Lane just need to keep doing what they're doing. The way they are progressing is great for our offense. As long as they stay hungry and we continue to punish teams with the run game we'll be fine.

Below is from Rivals' recruiting update yesterday about Green.

"Green didn't take a visit this weekend according to his visit timeline. His next scheduled official visit will be to Michigan on Oct. 20 for the Wolverines game against Michigan State. The five-star doesn't list a favorite, but the trip to Ann Arbor will be worth following.

Derrick Green, the nation's top back, has to have an eye on the Tennessee coaching situation. With Derrick Henry committing to Alabama over Tennessee last weekend, the Vols need to turn up the heat on Green's recruitment. Tennessee offers a favorable depth chart and the possibility of early playing time. If he is looking to be a feature back in the toughest conference in college football, playing in Knoxville could be a good fit.

One thing not helping the Vols is the uncertainty surrounding head coach Derek Dooley's job security. It doesn't get any easier in Rocky Top as Tennessee takes on three ranked teams -- Mississippi State, Alabama and South Carolina -- in the next three weeks. Win a pair of those, and Green may like where the program is headed."

Thank you for posting this. I don't think we can say anything for sure, but a win Sat night, a competitive game against bama and SC, coupled with a Mich loss 10/20 should be enough IMO. Provided that we continue to run the ball like we have been.

I agree with your assessment. I believe he wants to play in SEC and the Vols need only give him a good reason to pick them.

That last little jab at us from Mike Farrell is a joke. How can an analyst (and not a very good one IMO) make that opinionated comment? That is in there to give negative attention to TN. That's on a national site which lots of kids read... It isn't enough that opposing teams are putting this crap into the minds of recruits, but he has to go throw gas on the fire with that crap journalism. One of the many reasons I go to 247 now for info. Rivals has become a joke.


I get that our ignorant and delusional fanbase is calling for Dooley's head everytime he doesn't win a big game, but someone who is supposed to know something about football to write something like that which will be read by several kids who may consider coming here? Cmon.

A top 25 road win and another 200 yard rushing game would be a good start this weekend. I can't blame Green for being patient to watch things play out, but I think we are definitely on the right track to proving we are the best fit for his skills.

If Michigan losses hurt them, UT losses hurt us. I do think he will choose us though, if we have similar seasons. If we can somehow win 2 of the next 3,the hot seat stuff will be gone.

I understand the thinking here, but honestly I don't agree. A big10 or whatever loss compared to losing against the #1 team or a top 5 team on the road seem to be viewed differently even by recruits (thankfully). For example, the way we played against fla and ga was obvious to recruits and didn't hurt us nearly as much as some expected. I think it has more to do with our style of play and obviously the competition. The second part of your post I 100% agree with tho. Gotta beat Miss St first tho, thats the most important thing.

Kinda to continue, specifically in the case of Green. Cleary we have to continue to show a commitment to the running game. IMO if we can run a decent amount on bama and SC, #1 it gives us a better chance to win, but #2 it helps in his recruitment. In that event I don't think a loss hurts us. What we can't do is get down 14-0 and stop running, or just run end arounds and draws. Control the clock and get tough yards on good teams. Recipe for success and recipe to lure top rb's and finally have a balanced offense.

Wow, with this kind of defeatism from our current players, AU will be extremely lucky to have any resemblance of a decent recruiting class, much less competing for headliners like Green. This is a summary of quotes from RS receiver Sammy Coates via twitter world.
