One of the nation's top running backs, Derrick Green (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) narrowed his list of schools to six earlier in the summer. Green qualified what he is looking for in a program.
"Right now, I'm just trying to find out what school I have the best relationship with, where I can go and see some early playing time," Green told Jason Stamm of HokieHaven.com. "I'm definitely looking at the depth chart more, see who they have coming in and in my recruiting class and stuff like that. Also, definitely academics."
Auburn, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee and Virginia Tech currently make up Green's final six.
Two of those programs, Tennessee and Virginia Tech, have yet to add a running back to their 2013 class. Of those two, Green speaks very highly of Virginia Tech.
"They're still high up there," Green told Stamm. "They're definitely close to home. Just their fan base, they support me a lot. I know if I go there, I could definitely get on the field early and get a lot of early playing time. I have a great relationship with Coach Shane (Beamer) and Frank Beamer. They've been recruiting me since my sophomore year. I have a good relationship with the coaching staff and every time I go out there, I just have a real good feeling."
If Virginia Tech is considered Green's current leader, a new program is entering the conversation while trying overtake the Hokies.
Green will take an unofficial visit to Georgia this weekend according to Stamm. The Bulldogs are still searching for a running back after Derrick Henry (Yulee, Fla./Yulee) decommitted from the program.
