'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

Yes, correct. My intent was not to imply that Kelly *recruited* Stewart to Oregon (but he did recruit LGB.) Stewart was a Jr when Kelly came in for the '07 season as OC. LGB came in for '08 specifically because we needed somebody to fill the void left by Stewart going pro.

The only other 'power' type I can recall being recruited to Oregon in the Kelly era would probably be Dontae Williams, but he transferred.

I don't think any of this means anything though. Any RB worth his salt is going to have success in an offense that opens lanes like this one does. Both tiny quarkbacks (thanks chris/smartfootball) and powerbacks can produce big numbers within Kelly's offenses.

Truth! Lanes, some as wide as a tractor-trailer.

I see Tennessee getting Green and Lawson in this signing period. In my opinion, that's what we need most right now. A Stud running back to go with our O line and a well rested pass rusher that will put the heat on the opponents QB. Pass rushers are best when they have a good running game on their team. That way they enter the game rested and ready to go after a ball control score. Quick strikes are exciting, but they can be difficult on your defense as well.

Signing Green and Lawson would be like signing Travis Henry and Raynoch Thompson in the same class.

We'll be even more dangerous with Green.

You will see even more big plays.

Lane won't lay down for Green either. He's a very talented runner.

Pig Howard and CP would be very dynamic on the outside for us.

The O-line could be one of the best in the country.

And Bray if he returns(highly likely right now) will be much much better with this first full year under his belt.

We could be really good next year. A much improved defense and an offense that is truly 50/50 run/pass.

Perennially on the cusp. Gotta break through the mental curtain at some point.

I completely agree. That's why this weekend is so big. If we can finally win a game against an opponent that is perceived better than us, it will go a long way towards future wins in big games. Have to get over the hump.

Offense will be better if only Hunter goes pro.

O-line will be more physical and the backs are running like SEC backs now.

CP would be in his second year and knowing the system.

We would have a better crew of WRs to help him based on experience and athleticism.

The defense will be better just from an athletic standpoint. The LBs(C.Harris, Bynum, Vereen, and Zanca as of now) will be able to help us out next year.

Curt Maggitt needs to really get healthy for us. He's our best playmaker in the front seven.

The secondary will be younger but a second year Bonner and third year Coleman could give us our best set of CBs in years.

McNeil is the X factor for the defense. In his second year he could be a monster. I truly think we'll have one of the best safeties in the country when it's all said and done with McNeil.

D-line should be the strength of the defense if everyone returns.

Do you remember his explosiveness forcing the Glennon safety? Our defense seriously misses his ability to make plays.

He flashed into backfield for us last year even in that vanilla scheme. He's the key to our defense. Our front seven can feed off a player of Maggitt's caliber.

I hesitate to compare anyone to Jamal Lewis...just like I hesitate comparing QB's to Peyton, LB's to Wilson, and Saftey's to Berry.

I prefer that a player actually play a few years on Shield-Watkins before I start comparing them to all-time greats.

I don't usually do it myself. These kids are warranting this though. I think Green compares well to Kenny Hilliard down at LSU coming out of HS. Very similar IMO....

Lawson is a special special player and I personally think he's the No.1 player in the country this year.

If we get them, I hope you're right.

If we don't...I hope you're wrong. (but only if they go to other SEC schools)

his toe must really be bothering him b/c that explosiveness just hasnt showed up lately - does anyone know what is realistic to expect him to get back to his normal self - can a couple weeks really turn a toe around or are we going to have to wait until next year to see the real CM?
