'13 TN RB Cornelius Elder

Now I tried to make that real clear. I don't mind running backs who are 5'9", 5'10" or 5'11'. It can be an advantage. But you can't be that short AND be slightly built..only weigh 160 or 170 pounds. That will not work for long. It's like that little walk-on guy from Alcoa that we have playing right now. He is just too small and light. If one of the big Bama or LSU linebackers got squared up on him, they would knock him into next week.

If Corn can carry 190 pounds or so, he might have a chance. I like him! He is exciting.

their are exceptions though. charlie garner, warrick dunn, darren sproles, noel devine and the kid at WV before him(can't think of his name right now). if you have enough speed and elusiveness you can be very dangerous and weigh around 180lbs

exceptions is the key word though. These guys usually don't translate well stay at that size.

yeah, but corn is considered to be elite and the elite ones are usually the exceptions. elite is what we're missing in the backfield

Maybe - typically the RBs of his style are more likely to be busts than the balanced/power backs because its a harder transition into college for them.

Maybe the Corn will grow a couple of more inches and that will erase any question...he's just a junior.

For what it's worth, I love his name!

How far in advance do 'they' start assigning the star ratings on high school players? Does Corn have a rating yet?

I'm rather naive on the whole recruiting process

Wow, don't see that too often against MUS. Mr 4.25 himself rushed for about 30 a few weeks ago.

Most of it came in the 2nd half. MUS kept turning it over and the D just got gassed. He is a player though.

MUS next game...well, they open with Ensworth next season..ouch

Good article out about Elder in today's copy of the Tennessean. Thought this was an interesting quote by MSU head coach Bobby Alston. “We played the kid (Vanderbilt commitment Brian Kimbrow) from Memphis East and nobody did to us what Elder did.”

I know he's only 160 pounds now but I have seen this kid play and he's electric. He'll be one to watch next year.

I don't usually get caught up in hype over TN high school players (Mathers, Kimbrow, J. Robinson) none of them really revved my engine as far as their college prospects. However, I would absolutely love to land this guy, I think he is an elite athletic talent and we need that. Regardless of where he is from, but especially a TN boy. Hopefully Tiny will have some pull since he's an ex-teammate.

Yep,

They also faced Olive Branch, South Panola, Kimbrow, and Jordan Wilkins at SBA (another '12 recruit).

Elder and Wilkins were the best two in the opinion of MUS coaches from my understanding.

It is really easy to plan for Kimbrow's team since he was the only threat on their offense.

For EHS you have to plan for Bowers, Batey, Elder, that other RB, and one other WR i forget their names.

Memphis East has no one. Its hard to get yards when your hit in the backfield every time literally

Yeah, it's not like Redmond is a D1 athlete or anything

Corn just suffered what appeared to be a significant knee blow out in the first quarter of the state championship game...right leg. Sad thing to see

Correction...They are reporting that it is a high ankle sprain. That is much much better!!! Thank goodness. I like Corn!
