'13 TN QB Charlie High

They are giving him a chance to go to school where he has wanted to go. He can continue to play football like he wants to do. I think the staff thinks very highly of CH or they would not allow him to walk-on. We'll see how his career plays out. Walk-On screams VFL and I love it.

Have you looked at some of the walk ons on the roster? Just because the coaches allow someone to walk on doesn't mean that actually expect him to ever play. Look I have no problem with the kid walking on. If I was him I would just rather go somewhere I could play but that's just me. He should do what he wants and if it's walking on at UT then great.

And some walk ons earn scholarships and see alot of playing time. We have had walk ons make a go of it in the NFL. The kid could go to TT on scholarship. He wants to be a VOL. I say let him and appreciate the fact he chose to. JMO

What walk on went to the NFL? I agree with the rest of your post. Like I said he should do what makes him happy.

I know its the exception, not the rule, but wasn't JJ Watt a walk-on? Arguably the best defender in the NFL.

No he didn't

Per UT's website.

Former walk-on earned scholarship in 2009 and also starting middle linebacker spot
Capped those accomplishments by being elected team captain
First former walk-on team captain since J.J. McCleskey in 1992

Got his shot in the NFL with the Bucs.

Got his shot and was cut never even made the practice squad. That's not making to the NFL

Charlie wants to be a Vol. I imagine that's why he's walking on instead of going to TTU. Let the kid make his own decisions...

I have been pulling for Charlie for quite some time. Was very happy when news broke that he was accepting a spot with Tennessee. Having Smith and Kendrick on the team with him is just awesome. Something tells me they talked about it alot growing up.

I like having Knoxville kids on the team in any capacity and you never know. I think Darrell Dickey was a walk on and he was MVP of the 85 Sugar Bowl.

Charlie High isn't fast and doesn't have a great arm.

I think you seriously underestimate High's arm. From the film I've seen, he has tremendous touch and adequate arm strength. While he may not be able toss 70-yard bombs, I'd say accuracy is at least as important as raw arm strength when it comes to arm "greatness" and Charlie High is the all-time most accurate passer in HS history.

I'd much rather have a QB who can consistently drill receivers in the short and medium game than someone with a rocket arm but only average accuracy. I like the idea of having a guy who's skilled at reading defenses, finding an open receiver, and ridiculously good at putting the ball in the right place.
