I don't post too often on here, however, I have had the good fortune of being able to coach both of these young men during my time as a high school coach, and would like to share my thoughts on their overall similarities/differences. While both are nothing short of great football players, both are local guys, and both bleed orange and white, I don't think they go/went about their craft in different ways.
Size/Strength -- One would not stand out from the other if you saw them on the street, although Dennis might be a little more barrel-chested. Upper bodies are both thicker than you would think, but Rogan was definitely stronger at this point in his career. That is not to say Malik is not pretty dang impressive in the weight room. On the other hand, Foreman's lower body might be a little stronger.
Speed -- This is what makes Foreman a little different than Rogan as a player. Malik has a different gear than I have seen in a high school kid around here. As many up in northeast TN have said, Foreman has two speeds...here he comes and there he goes. It really is almost unbelievable to watch at times when he sticks his foot in the ground off the zone read and gets down hill. I remember watching Rogan run away from anyone who gave chase during the 2005 seson, but Foreman is just flat out gone.
Quickness/Agility -- Both are hard to tackle. Malik's ability to cut and accelerate, as well as his vision, are special no matter who you are comparing him to. Rogan was almost bouncy on his feet they were so quick (and he had some of the most ridiculous moves as a tailback I have ever seen; Swafford compares more with him here). As returners, Rogan would reverse field, spin twice, juke 6 guys, break one tackle, and score...Foreman would see a little seam, cut once or twice, and everyone would be chasing him down the sideline.
Physicality -- This is where I would say the two of them are most similar. Both are very physical corners, especially for their size. While Dennis was a more physical tackler, Malik is probably more physical in jamming receivers initially off the line. Both will strike you whether they are on offense or defense, and enjoy doing it
Work Ethic/"Smarts" -- I would not, and will not, ever question the work ethic of either of these young men on the football field. I have coached for 8 years, and they really are two of maybe the top-5 "consistent effort" guys I've had. Both have that special something when the ball is in their hands, but they are two of the three best corners I've ever coached. Football smarts are off the charts with the two of them, but in the classroom Foreman is an honor student at Dobyns-Bennett. Not lying when I say this...these are two kids I am genuinely thankful ,and mighty proud if you haven't noticed, for getting to know, coach, and hopefully impact in some way.
Sorry for the novel, but I figured I'd give you my take on it.
