'13 TN ATH Mack Weaver (Vandy Commit)

Tennessee offered a few weeks ago and Weaver's been able to speak to Tennessee assistant coach Darin Hinshaw recently.

"We've just talked about their team and how I fit into their team. He said I didn't have to go there for a specific position, they just want me on the roster. I've just talked to him about him possibly coming back down and watching during spring and me going up there and seeing the school," Weaver said. "That's about it but I plan on talking to him a little bit more sometime this week."

Weaver's yet to visit Tennessee, but even though he hasn't set foot on the Knoxville campus he knows about the Vols.

"I know a little bit about them. They're a great program, good facilities, a couple of my friends go there and they say that they love it up there," Weaver said. "It's still close to home but it's far enough away to be on their own. Then, the football team has been good and produced great players. I've just been told that it's a great place overall."

Mack is a solid prospect. Probably could play defense, too. You can't coach a frame like that. He's massive and that's the first thing that stands out. To be honest there's a lot to like. Seems to move fairly well and his hands aren't bad. Got some nice moves. Seems like he can block too. Not some kid that will have to be taught how to be tough. Lot of TEs are pass-catches only at this stage. He's pretty complete.

Hate to burst some bubbles, but I have two points.
1.) I played with him. He's not good. He left my alma mater for Harding and Harding plays in the lowest division of football in the state. Great size but that is IT. Will not be good.
2.) I ran into him a few days ago and he told me if Oregon offers that he will commit.

Just curious but what specificly do you mean? Does he lack athleticism? Strength? Toughness? Hands? Football IQ?

UT, Clemson, and Louisville have offered. Each of those schools has quality defensive talent evaluators. They obviously disagree with you or see something you haven't.

dude you cant coach the size and the kid has speed he will be fine if he just gets in a good Strength program. I played college ball and this kid has talent maybe not 5 star but you cant coach the frame. I think it is you wish you had that kind of talent and you know the kid so you just drank to much haterade today j/k and if the UT coaches think he is worthy than I think the kid is ok in my books just hope hes not a cam clear good TE/DE prospect

What year did you play with him? Seems like he has gotten quite a bit better since then, at least a couple of SEC schools seem to think so.

At least half of the SEC, and about 14 others disagrees

Seems to me he would be a be a better defensive player and make more of an impact on the game on that side of the ball.

We continue to pursue Weaver. It sounds like we'd take he and Wilson and be done at TE.

Hes not good!! You'll see you'll all see!!!

Well let's reverse your logic. Rod Wilks was all the hype, as well as Chris Donald and some others. How did that work out for us sir?

Some players plateau in high school, they are just better than the high school players around him. So maybe this kid is average in high school, but has the frame and ABILITY to be coached up into something special. You're always taking a chance. If our coaches see something in him, I trust their opinion over yours. Twice a week, and 36 times on Sunday.

Now what scouting agency or school do you work for again? Thought so..
