It was a little cultish.. In a funny way at first, then just got weird.
no they did not at all trash LWS.
Auburn's always been good at recruiting. We've had like 4 straight top 10 classes. Are you surprised because we have a new staff?
We've given this kid EVERY SINGLE reason alive to come to UT. Why on earth he wants to still go to AU after all the burned bridges/this weekend fiasco is beyond me. Ill admit, I will be pretty pizz ed off and feel very slighted if he chooses to stick with that POS school. The fact that we've shown him nothing but class and a family environment and still decides to spurn us...screw him Im sorry.
It's funny that you don't really see many of the grudenites posting much now. Some in that thread did. LWS was consistently saying 5-10% chance of Gruden on VQ while the Gruden thread here was saying 105-110%.
I remember this because LWS, Skeeter, the reasonable skepticism of Bruin, and the mob mentality that developed in that thread were the main things that kept me from buying in completely.
Anybody that said he wasn't coming got trashed to some extent, LWS included. That's part of why it ended up being such a mess when It turned out to be a farse.
Yeah I am not knocking anybody or the school per say. But all being equal, both have new staffs, and really as far as Tradition, National Titles, Stadium, Town, etc... surely one would give the edge to the Vols? And maybe not all the time but 50/50 would be a start.I understand I am a Vols fan but have been to most of the towns and venues, just dont see the draw.
From that deductive reasoning I would hope for more wins in recruiting against Auburn or Ole Miss. JMO not trying to pick a skirmish here
And to be clear I hope the Lawson kid goes where his heart leads. And wish him well.
No doubt the Vols have the better history. Yet, in reality, the fans care about history, but recruits do not as much. Otherwise, Nebraska would have top recruiting classes all the time. And as regards to towns, it's up to the recruits opinions which town is better. I'm sure many recruits love UT's campus more and many love AU's more. And while UT has fantastic traditions, AU does have their fair share of good traditions as well. I just don't think it's fair to group in AU, who has had not just historical success in recruiting but also recent success, with Ole Miss who has not been attracting top recruits since Johnny Vaught.
And really, neither of our teams will recruit overly well while we are both in our down period. But when both programs return to where they once were, recruiting will become better. Kinda hard to sell 3-9 and 5-7 seasons.
ETA: And I don't know if you were around for the 80's, but UT and AU have been losing recruits to each other since the 80's and probably before that. (I started following CFB in the 80's).
It truly amazes me how Auburn attracts so much talent every year and still can't have a winning season. Not to mention all the issues that's happened over there recently. I know it's Carl's decision but it would be best for him to come to Tennessee where we have the best tradition and the best loyal fans in college football history. He could easily become one of the all time greats with Peyton Manning, Eric Berry, Arian Foster, Bryce Brown, and so many more. Auburn will never be on Tennessee's level in any circumstance.
