'13 GA DE Carl Lawson (Auburn commit)

I did not follow much of that Gruden mess, but i would be shocked if Larry ever said Gruden was coming here.

There was alot of smoke, and he was one of the sources who backed up the alleged info to creat it.. I followed very closely unfortunately. :banghead2:

Edit: I may be wrong but I'm not the only person here who thought that was the case. If anyone wants to find some posts of his to prove either way, that would be cool.

We are in the process of confirming a supposed e-mail sent from LWS. Stay tuned.

Interesting... I was assuming it was a quote from him on VQ and I was too lazy to look back in the thread to verify...

It he said it, I believe it. But if not...?

I was introduced to Boom and Soon during the Gruden mess. OGs had us refreshing pages every 30 seconds hanging on their inside scoop only to find out we were fools to ever believe their bs.

I'm just a realist who follows recruiting

I hear ya. I got blasted last night for basically saying the same thing. As much as we all want CL in orange, I just didn't see enough for him to decommitt. Not saying my fingers aren't crossed and hope like hell he changes his mind. Either way, I am impressed with the way this young man handled the pressure.

There is far too much on here that I've followed far too closely. I hear you. After NSD, I'm reevaluating how much time I spend in the weeds of recruiting, etc. If its real and really important, the press will pick it up and confirm it (eventually, anyway). I gain little by knowing early.

Although following recruiting is nice, because it helps me know the players in the SEC before they hit the field. So it's really about balance, I suppose...

I absolutely agree. For those who think I am a pessimist I actually think we flip Levenberry

No, I looked at his VQ posts, and saw nothing current referencing Lawson. A poster in this thread claimed he received a private e-mail form LWS confirming Lawson's recommitment.

We will find out soon how legit this was.

Yeah, LWS shot down the Gruden rumors at every turn. He nailed it. Many of the OGs trashed him. And said he was out of touch. But he was dead on in the end.

Not sure who all trashed him, but I was on VQ for 10 years. LWS has good info, but he also hedges a bit. He doesn't want his opinion and info to come off as absolute in case it changes. It is totally understandable, but he leaves it open for things to change. I knew LWS knew some of Fulmer's staff; I just wasn't sure how much he knew with the new regime.

Many of us were trashed in that silly place. I was run out of there within the first 5 pages because I dared to call them on there silliness. But it sure was fun to go back every 100 or so pages and say it again. :)

If Lawson reaffirmed his commitment to Auburn before he left, this is one of the most bizarre ends to recruiting that I could imagine. I echo what has been said previously that Carl and his family handled his recruitment very well. That said, it is pretty nutty that the clinching visit was marred with an alleged racially fueled fight and recruits allegedly leaving Auburn because of the fight and the comments made and all this happens only for Carl to still reaffirm is strange to me. In addition, Auburn hired the coach who ignored him while at UGA and the Lawsons seemed not to like Garner at all. He must love Auburn for Auburn and really want to honor his commitment. Again, if he goes to Auburn, I wish him luck because he seems like a good kid but the end was really, really strange (though certainly not the fault if Lawson).

Lws has contacts within the AD. SOME big time boosters wanted Gruden and attempted to facilitate it. The AD didn't want these boosters telling him how to do his job and he didn't want Gruden so he went his own direction with Strong and ultimately Butch Jones. That's why Larry was always negative in regards to Gruden.

We've given this kid EVERY SINGLE reason alive to come to UT. Why on earth he wants to still go to AU after all the burned bridges/this weekend fiasco is beyond me. Ill admit, I will be pretty pizz ed off and feel very slighted if he chooses to stick with that POS school. The fact that we've shown him nothing but class and a family environment and still decides to spurn us...screw him Im sorry.

Larry's contacts are not just limited to the AD.

Yeah, but sometimes a recruit has someone (supposedly) sitting on the sidelines, who has emotional control over them. They wait it out. Then, they pounce. The do their "magic" - whatever emotional methods that they know are tried and true - and (insert whizbang phrase) the recruit goes to said controller's school of choice...Or maybe he's stuck on some cutey there.

Whatever it is, everything else that has happened or been said is irrelevant.

Unfortunately for UT, this happens against us more than it goes in our advantage, simply because we are not usually the in-state or closest school, and we are not currently a "winning" school.

So from reading all these comments, Lawson is pretty much going to Auburn? Wow, we offered this kid so much and he still wants to go to that crappy school Auburn? Oh well, maybe I'm just reading too much and it's not true. Still, good luck wherever he goes.
