'13 GA DE Carl Lawson (Auburn commit)

I read it different, you do "due diligence" in checking out a house between when there is an REPC and closing by having a housing inspection/appraisal, etc.

In this case the Real Estate Purchase Contract is the verbal commitment and the closing is National Signing Day. Sadly this looks like he is headed to the Barn.

I didn't read it quite like that. More of doing due diligence and making sure you have all the information you need to make a decision. Leaving no regrets out there, fulfilling all promises made. This decision is final, one should have everything they need before making it. I didn't take that comment as a lean anywhere.

Just curious, has Lawson Jr ever made a statement? EVERYTHING I read it seems his dad does all the talking. Maybe Jr is looking for the best opportunity, but it sure looks like dad is running this show. JMO

I'm guessing Carl, Sr. is running interference for his son. I can imagine how bombarded these top recruits are...thousands of fans on chat boards, media hounding them for comments after they blow their noses, fellow recruits pushing them, their friends and classmates, tv shows, coaches from God knows how many schools calling each and every day, blah, blah, blah...

Even the ones who think it's a game or who like to have their egos stroked, I imagine when it finally comes to an end, they are probably relieved.

My stupid North Dakota St. post aside, I've thought all along that Lawson will stick with Auburn. I hate to say that, and I 100% hope I'm wrong. The fact that he is bringing that many people close to him on his AU visit this weekend makes me even more confident, unfortunately, that I am right.

Cliffs from AU Rivals -

- Lawson will be joined by his father, mother, uncle, two step-brothers and his speed and agility coach on the trip.

- "We are looking forward to meeting the academic staff, the whole feel," Lawson Sr. said. "We want Carl to have a good opportunity and we wanted him treated fairly. We don't want anything special, we just want him to be able to make the best decision that will impact him the next four years.

- "It's about the community. He wants to identify with the community that he's going to be a part of. That's what Carl is looking for, a place where if he decided he didn't want to play football, he could live there."

- Auburn visited Lawson on Monday night, as defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson and defensive line coach Rodney Garner checked in. "The visit went well. Coach Johnson is distinguished -- a genius I guess," Lawson Sr. said. "Or if not a genius, then he's a defensive savant."

- "He's never decommitted from Auburn, there's a reason for that."

- The plan is for Lawson and his family to visit Auburn this weekend, return home, and have a final decision on Monday. There will be no signing day announcement, no hat tricks. Lawson Sr. said they will make their decision and call the coaches to inform them on Monday.

- "We plan on making a 100 percent, absolute decision, and that will be it," Lawson Sr. said. "We won't do any press conferences. This weekend is due diligence and hopefully, a final wrap-up."

This kid doesn't need the limelight. Comes from good people you can tell. His dad is well spoken and from his interviews Carl seems to be as well. I wish the best for him no matter if he chooses the Vols or not.

Agreed. I mean he's taking the whole fam from the looks of it.

I have to agree with you. I mean...he is already committed to Auburn so why all the back and forth (especially being that he is seemingly a classy guy who is taught to honor his word)? He must be conflicted. Why does he need one last visit just to seal the deal unless he really is uncertain as to where he wants to end up? I took "due diligence" as meaning that Auburn will get the last shot to keep him because he has made a commitment to them. He is being respectful. Otherwise just tell the world you are solid and will not entertain any other offers, inhomes, or phone calls.

yea if all those family members are going with him on this visit right before nsd and the fact he hasnt decommited yet aubbies have to be feelin really good about him right now

Dang. We are so close, but this don't look good!!! Hope CBJ has a trick up his sleeve, cause it looks like he will need it!!! I think main reason is small town feel is what they keep going back to. The one thing Carl said way back, was he didn't realize how big Knoxville was. Hey we're stil in it so lets hope!!!

Lawson made a comment after UT visit that he "learned how big a town Knoxville is". I believe that was his words. I'm afraid he considers Knoxville big. Unfortunately Auburn would fit his personality.

I don't know. Didn't Dad just tweet yesterday that he wish he had a 3-sided coin? I agree the biggest hurdle is his prior commitment, but no way do I feel this is a done deal.

Buckle up guys...this Board has blasted the team for not being tough enough in the second half of many games, but it sure appears there are a lot of folks on VN who are not handling any adversity that comes their way.

He'll realize how big auburn is when everywhere he goes he gets mocked by alabama fans.

Are you sure? I know Shelton Gibson said the exact same thing and wasn't sure if you got them mixed up.

If true, apparently Knoxville is quite the metropolis compared to when I graduated a couple years ago. Sheesh, guys... Ain't that big...

Well, in 3 or 4 years whichever team drafts him will be in a gity bigger than Knoxville so UT is the prefect "prep" school for that NFL city.

Lawson's comment (or maybe Uzzi's) was how surprised he was by all the concrete in Knoxville and on campus. And elsewhere, I recall Lawson having said (a month or two ago) that he preferred a quieter pace. Knoxville may in fact be too big for him, although I do think we're in the running. Just don't know that we will be by signing day.

Don't get me wrong. I'm really positive about NSD. I think we will surprise people but just not feeling this one right now with him taking everyone but his cousins to a school he is still committed to the last weekend before signing. Just trying to be realistic.
