I understand that the personnel needs for the 3-4 are different than the 4-3. That being said, Carl Lawson is the type of talent that could play in either base defense even if he does not have prototypical size for the 3-4 DE position or speed for the Jack position. Additionally, even 3-4 teams don't always line-up in the 3-4. All in all, given the talent level of Lawson, I would have thought UGA would find a way to get him to UGA and then on the field because he is a playmaker and, IF UGA did not offer or pursue Lawson at all, there has to be a reason for it and I think Lawson correlates (rightfully or wrongfully) the snub from UGA to Garner. From what I have read, I think Garner was instrumental in the decision not to pursue Lawson and, thus, I think the change in tenor with his move to Auburn is revealing and I hope and believe that Lawson will as well. I, of course, could be wrong since (1) I am not a UGA fan and (2) I don't have personal knowledge of the personnel and recruiting discussions of the UGA coaching staff. However, it seems that Lawson has made that correlation and that is all that matters.
